I still have three Quantum Tour Edition 11bb 7:1 Reels and Falcon 6'6" Medium Action rods for sale @ $150 per rod/reel combo.
All three reels are like new, very light scuffs on the side from use. Stung with 50# braid.
Reels alone retail for $240 rods were $100...

Revo, best reel going in your price range. Even the low end is very smooth and castable. Enjoy!!! Jim

You might want to look at the H20 Express 'mettle'. I bought one the other day from Academy- thought for $50, if I dont like it I'll give to one of my kids. Well, after fishing with it for a few weeks, I went back and bought 3 more. I've always been a fan of Shimano (got 4 green curados)- but a 10 bearing reel for $50 is tough to beat.

If you do any flipping/pitching, might want to look at the Shimano Castaic.
Has a nice feature to re-engage the reel without turning the handle.

The Revo is a very good reel with one execption. The worm gear has the pawl opening to the front which has a tendency to catch debrie comming off the line as it is spooled up. The heavy duty drag system provided on the Revo lends to more uses with braided line. One of the problems with braided line is it picks up trash out of the water.
Several Revo reels have be4en to my shop for clogged up worm gear assembly that went into the worm gera due to the front opening.
Problem is less with mono line but is not completly eliminated by using mone.
In my oponion the Revo has an engineering problem that could have been avoided by simply turning the worm gear opening around like most of the other quality reels.

Revo STX...or the Quantum Accurist PT. I have both and love them both. Smooth ,long casting, very durable.

Go to Bass Pro Shops and talk to the salesman. Tell him how much you can spend and what you like. They are knowledgeable and you can hold the reel in your hand. Stay away from Shimano. You won't like anything between a Calcutta 50 or a Calais 200DC.

If you want to fish, and not have to ever worry about your equipment. Then, buy a Shimano. I have at least fifteen Shimano reels, some over 12 years old. I never, repeat never have had a problem with a Shimano reel. It is no wonder that every saltwater guide I have fished with was using Shimano reels.
They are bar-none the most durable reel on the market. As you can see above, with every other reel there are exceptions.
WORD!!
