flehan lol Albertking.

ScooterG the only problem with buying them is someone would figure out how to beat the system. I think they should reclassify channel cats. They should be classified as a rough fish not a game fish. But oh well TP&W make the rules not me. Atleast you have a pond you can get some pollywog cats. Them Aps like them too smile

Here's the clincher just like releasing pen-raised quail, pheasant or turkeys, once they are released into the wild (state waters/land) they become part of the state population which is regulated by TPWD.

I have had several nice channels and blues either dead or sucked on by big flatheads when I've checked lines in the morning. Flatheads will eat anything that is alive, regardless of the fish species as long as it can get it into its mouth. They are even cannibalistic, eat their own species. Cleaned a 18lber and found an 8 pound flathead in its stomach.

I'd rather use pollys anytime IF I'm only going after flatheads, otherwise, give me some good longear, redbreast, warmouth or pumpkinseed sunfish to bait up with for nice size blues also.

Whichever you use, do it responsibly and abide by our regulations...there's no reason to do otherwise and for sure, not to give our youth the wrong message growing up.

Hey Chris, I carried 120 poly's to the Trinity river last year in Feb. My buddy failed to bring the perch he promised so that's all we had for bait. We caught 38 fish that weekend which was a mixed bag of blues and flatheads so that proves it to me that they blues like poly's too!!!
I ran my traps for the last time this morning. I only have 3 mudcats but I do have 340+ green sunfish. I am ready!!!

I have been told by a few old-timers that Zote soap is the best soap to use as bait but that Ivory works good to. I can attest to the fact that it works. As far as anything else goes baitwise....use what is legal and is working at the time...

Not good for long casting. It was a little dry...I didnt soak them first. I used them once...no luck. I bought my at the local country store (homemade type) near the lake...it was made from goat's milk, cut into small cubes.

Zote is a mexican laundry soap. I've seen it at dollar stores and grocery stores (laundry soap section). The pink one has a higher fat content than the other variety. Be sure to dig your fingernail into it to make sure it's not all dried out. The packaging is not very air-tight so you should store it in a ziploc bag when you get it home. I have a sample of that Rivercat Soap that I'll be trying out in a couple weeks.
