it's made like this...

"Zote" soap...cut some off....mash some anise spice/seed thing into soap...poor some kind of extract on it and put a hook through it...

i've heard of quite a few people using 'soap' bait. its not like really house hold soap, but to some degree it is comparable. take a look at www.catfishbaitsoap.com i bought some but by the time i could get half way down the bar, it got moldy as 5 month old bread and started to loose its soapiness.

THe soap you are looking for is Zote soap-- worked ok for me--not great but ok. Not nearly as good as fresh shad. You can get 3 packs of the soap at the 99cent store for.........99cents

it will catch fish on no-current lakes. i used the use it onLake Palestine. It is by far not the best bait but it is cheap and channel cats are interested in it. I snagged alot of amller fish on it. Perhaps they needed a bath???
I Texas there are no rules on how often you must check your trotlines during the 30 day period they are set out so we baited our lines with the soap on Suday mornings and came bck on Thursday night to find a big flathead several times. My guess is that he took a channel cat out for dinner!

It works good on jugs and trotlines. It has to set in the water for a while and melt. Good thing is I have only caught catfish on it no gar or any other water creature.

popcorn I cannot say I have ever tried it nor will I ever try it. But then again I dont fish for channel cats . I cannot say this enough if you want to catch QUALITY fish then use fresh shad or live bait.

My grandpa swore by Zote soap on his jug lines. I think I recall him saying that Zote soap is still made with a bunch of fat, but I could be wrong.

Hey Danny, me and you fish for the same thing and Zote soap will get you there! If you are running your lines all the time and have good live bait then I would not use it. If you paln to come back in 3-5 days then leave your trotilne baited with this stuff. I have caught several big flatheads on aline either with no bait or with Zote soap left as bait for a few days. It's hard to beat small channels for big daddy bait! It's not illegal if you don't know they're on there!!!

jeeees people...

I think EVERYONE knows by now that some of you swear by shad... you don't need to repeat that with every post talking about anything else for bait...

Let it go we all hear you the first dozen times y'all told us about shad. Some of us like using OTHER baits.

eeks scared noidea I will stick with what has worked for me. And soap aint one of them. I dont use any prepared baits for catfish. Cause all they mainly catch is channels. I wont even attemtp to comment on the leaving the line without checking it for 5 days.

Oh and just incase you did not read it before Micheal Thompson I use shad or live bait woot bolt lol

I am a little confused... To the left of every one of my messages is my name, and it's spelled MichIAl. That's over 1100 posts where my name is spelled the same.

Then it also appears in my signature line, and again it MichIAl.

How is it with over 2200 places where my name is not one person seems to be able to spell it correct?

Not to be rude hear, but I make an effort to look at how people chose to spell their names before I type them, is it too much to ask that others do the same?

-----

And leaving a line unchecked for 3-5 days. I rarely find my lines empty after 12 hours, by the end of 3-5 days I'd guess there to be a lot of dead fish

No its just I really dont pay much attention to your posts or your name. Sorry to confuse you did not spell check your name just seen you whining cause I have my own opinion about soap baits. And it is my right to post my opinion regardless if Micheal or Michial Thompson approves or not.
