They say Grapevine is only 5' high, but it sure seems higher. The Dove ramp is completely under water, as are all of the rocks around the ramp. The floating dock is about 100 yards away from where is belongs. Fishing the shore back in the cove is almost impossible. The brush/thorns are too thick to walk through.

I saw a few boats attempt to use the ramp but then decided against it. One nut did put in a pleasure/ski boat. The water is a little stained and somewhat muddy in some areas. The winds were blowing right in on the ramp and whitecaps were rolling in. The fishing was really slow. Caught one small bass on a spinnerbait. Had several short strike a rattletrap. Not a tap on a worm. I have some pics of the ramp, but havent figured out how to post them here.

Woooohoooo! They just started releasing water out of the Vine today! I checked it yesterday and they were releasing 28 CFS, I looked today to see they are pulling 312 CFS!!

Angler Moore, thanks for your insight! I am on the Vine atleast 2 days a week and drive by the lake daily, all I was trying to say was there are ramps on the lake that are still useable till we are 10ft high. Mabey your favorite ramp is closed, but there are still plenty of options. The lake being up and a few closures will scare off alot of people that dont really know what they are doing, or just flat out dont have a clue when it comes to launching and loading a boat. Since I am a "regular" and this is my "home lake" (I work and store my boat 5 minutes from the lake) I thought it would be nice to offer some knowledge for some of the folks that are not out here every week that may have been scared off by the first page of this topic with all the "here we go again" stuff. That my .02, sorry it rubbed you wrong. Have a nice day. smile

Grapevine is now at 540.97 feet. Normal elevation is 535 so its almost 6 foot high.

So Matt...please tell us clueless and don't know what we are doing folks which ramps are open right now on the north side... grin...or anywhere else for that matter.

I assume the high water ramp is open but what else? They made a high water ramp on the north side as well but have not finished the parking area or road yet...

Seriously I drove out to Murrell where I normally launch last Thursday and the water was in the parking lot and it was well less than the level it is today. The attendant said the COE told him it would be "weeks" before the Murrell ramp was reopened even once the water level went down. He may be wrong but that's what he said.

All in all I hope your optimism is correct...

Its all good Hard Rain! Just drive over to the south side and you have plenty of choices. If you are looking for perfect ramp conditions and a courtesy dock your probably not going to find them, but we are not to the point where you will tear your stuff up getting on the lake if you know how to launch and load a boat. Thats all I am trying to say, apparently I just have a way of pi$$ing people off when I type it instead if say it.

Silverlake is always the LAST ramp to close when the lake gets up, Katie Woods (Dooley) high water ramp is in my opinion the best ramp on the lake and its open, Dove rd ramp is open (we were still launching there last year when it was 8+ft high), Meadowmere is open, and the Vineyards campgrounds are open. With the level up its really not an issue to beach the boat and pick up your partner or park your truck. I am headed out this evening for a few hours I will launch at Dove instead of the high water and make a post regarding the condition of the ramp tomorrow.

So far...it doesn't look like the lake level has budged one bit. At least not according to this graph....looks like it is a tiny bit higher today than yesterday.

You guys should for thankful for the rain. We are suffering and have been for acouple of years now. Okeechobee,Placid,Crooked lake, canal systems and many more of our lakes here in Florida are really low. Take it when you can get it.

Look Buda. You didn't piss me off, I just don't want people to waste their time going out there when we went to about 6 different ramps and the GATES WERE CLOSED. So...it was not my favorite ramp....it was numerous ramps. So......if you can explain a way of backing your boat up to a ramp where the GATES ARE CLOSED....I'm all ears. And Thank You....Have a nice day! fish

popcorn

Anybody need any? grin

I think what Buda was trying to say is that there is at least one ramp open. It's not as doomy and gloomy as it was last year.

A couple more good soakers and we can all start crying in our cheerios though.

What we learned last year was that Grapevine is the very last, seemingly anyways, lake that they let water out of. That part really bites.

I've already worked out a solution with Matt (buda)...he is going to take me fishing at GV in his boat. Actually he is fishing there now from what he said in a PM.

He is the brother of one of my close friends and vital business contacts. Matt is one of the good guys on here but I did get a kick out of some of his posts... grin

Launched at Dove yesterday, the city has put up a marker on both sides of the ramp so its easy to see the boundaries. No courtesy dock, its floating about 30 yards away from the ramp in the brush. I picked up my partner just to the right side of the ramp (facing it from the parking lot) between a sign and a trash can. When the bow hit dry ground the graph was reading 4.5ft at the back of the boat. No problems at all.

Thanks for the kind words Hard Rain, let me know when you are ready to hit the lake!

when going to little petes you have to pass through a guarded gate now - after you go through it and to the lefft there is boat ramp - big parking lot with wha tlooked like just a one lane ramp. what is that ramp called and does anyone know how much it costs to launch/what time they open?

i realize it may be underwater now - just curious.

thanks,

We just call it the Murrel Park boat (west) ramp. There is actually another one (east) but it has been closed for nearly a year now from high water damage.

For now it is free to go into the park but the ramp is closed because of the high water. I was told by the COE that they will soon work to make park repairs and eventually open the rest of the park that is closed.

Not confirmed but I have been told once the park is fully functional you will have to pay...hence the real reason for the guard building...
