Camped out Thurs and Friday... fished Fri and Sat. Dawn to Dusk. Best fishing was pre-light. The fish were plentiful. I didn't fish anywhere but the rapids Killer mentioned above. 'bout 1.5 miles up from the upstream parking lot. No boats up there, but plenty of people. Friday, a crew of 5 guys caught about 100 and kept 83. The guys spincasting had 2 or 3 fish, the fly guys had full stringers.

We did observe a family of 10 or so show up, seine, and leave with 130 fish or so in the period of about 4 hours.

Saturday was much busier, but not as good fishing. My group of 13 guys caught about 100 and kept about 80. On that day, the spincasters caught absolutely nothing and the fly guys had 3-4 each before sunup. But then a front of some kind hit and it was just 1 or 2 here or there all day.

Good trip... great camping weather.

Fish the deeper cuts with current rather than the wide river with slow water. Get low and slow. Doesn't seem to matter what you're fishing with... They bit all the size and color of flies I threw at em. Crappie candy and clousers sized 6-10 in chartreuse, white, orange, red, etc.

Just a few things to add to FreebirdsWB comments, as I was out there with him. I'm the guy off to the right of the picture busily cleaning fish, not mugging for the camera wink

They were definitely there this weekend. Early seemed better and more action higher up and faster. As the day progressed, lower and slower as said above. If you're using minnows, get 'em down to the bottom of the channel or pool. Spincasters, try not to get hung up too much, but same thing. Rooster tails and road runners did best with white and something (orange, silver, red, chartreuse). Fly guys, I threw 6-8 clausers and crazy charlies in white/pearl, white/chartreuse, white/olive. All worked once I found the fish, depth, and speed. Also, I was using slow sinking line (Class 1, I think) and was able to be most flexible in the different spots. A couple of guys had Class 3 or fast sink tips and were dealing with snags all day long.

Good reports. I may be there this weekend. Not sure if I should bring my "bass raider" or just wade fish. Either way, is should be fun. I wonder if the fish have made it all the way upstream to Sulpher Spring, or Barefoot fishing camps? We used to kill 'em at Sulphur Springs camp.

Shut up and fish!

Went out there with a buddy Sunday early and walked down to the trail junction...I guess we didn't go far enough to the rapids, but we caught five all day until 6:30 rolled around. From 6:30 till 7:30 the two of us caught 27 on roostertails reeled in as fast as we could. All whites except for 4 hybrids, but none were 18 inches. Key is to find the faster water and downsize your lures if you are not fly fishing to 1/32 or 1/16 oz. Whole bunch of big ole carp flopping around all day as well.

"Ahhh, yes yes...who has time? Then again, if we never take time, then how can we ever have time?"

Yeah, the rapids are probably another 1/2 mile from the trail split.

My brother and I made the long round trip to CBSP yesterday. We wadefished from 2-8:15 p.m. Flyfishing only. Overall it was slow although fishing picked up late in the evening and as the full moon began to rise.

Final tally: my brother caught 14, I got 31. All released to fight another day.

The flow is good. Nice and wadeable. The water is tea stained but not muddy.
