If Shane caught it LEGALLY and is on the SAME playing field as the rest of folks who fish by the rules then by all means he should be able to claim it as the Brazos record fish.
Past history is he claimed/ or claimed for clients more than one record fish and was caught fishing illegally a few times -- TPWD need to do their due diligence BEFORE letting records be claimed.
Its a monster fish and Shane knows what to do to catch such fish -- but he runs outside the rules HONEST fishermen are bound by.
Maybe he has changed since 1994.

Maybe he has changed since 1994. Right on several accounts and wrong on others there thughes55. Lot's of ways to catch the fish of a lifetime on the Brazos. I have put enough time in on the River Personally and Professionally to know what will produce big fish. Some are legal, and some are not. I learned my lesson and moved on and grew up. I can't pass on "trout soaking" to my 8 year old Son. C'mon man. Get a kayak and get a life! On a more relative note..... Let's see the pictures of your trophy Hybrid legally caught or otherwise? Wonder how he got a Fishing License, The Guy holding up the fish is the most Famous \ Infamous Striped Bass Fishing in Texas, Shane Davies, he once held two Texas records for Striped Bass that was disallowed When it was found out he was fishing Illegally with trout below Possum Kingdom Dam, Which is where his recent Hybrid came from, Wonder if he was using Trout, Shane really is a great trophy Fishman, BUT but { He just never let any Game or Trespass Laws get in his Way } I will say one thing he probably Caught more 40lbs Striped Bass than any man in Texas, BUT his Problems {Stemmed from being above the Fishing Laws } HE was Busted about 7 Times in One year

Good for you Shane,(and I mean that) I hope thats a fact -- Your past disregard for the rules hurt you as much as it tarnished ALL fishermen -- I hope you teach that kid how to catch em -- I have fished in WAY too many venues where cheating and lying made people a lot of money -- Thats a humdinger of a hybrid no matter what bait was being used though -- and I really don't care what kind of bait you were using -- its a fish eat fish world, I catch plenty of "trophy" hybrid yearly still haven't broken the 15# mark YET. I have a wilderness systems tarpon I fish out of for the back country and a custom aluminum jet for the rivers -- I used to fish below Morris Shepherd about as much as you and we bumped into each other a lot below Whitney late eighties early nineties -- couldn't ever understand your attitude that you were ABOVE the rules -- I guess you paid for that. Plenty of hybrid and trophy stripes pics -- don't want to usurp that pig but one pic for old times sake Tony Hughes Lateral Line Guide Service Stillwater OK.

I've caught lake record fish on the fly rod many times but after reading this post I'm glad I never claimed any of them!

Sheds doubt that Golden Algae wiped all the fish out of the Brazos fisheries ove the last few years. Makes me smile knowing that.

Well, it only took a couple posts before the "keyboard Commandos" come out to start slinging trash. Whatever this guy's previous rep. is, WHO CARES?! that's an awesome fish for any body of water in this country. I'll admint I've gone around the law to catch big fish many times and been caught a couple & learned from it. any real angler knows the temptation is sometimes just too great. Hypothetical: suppose this guy went to prison for burglary. Would you drag THAT up 10-15 years later just because he caught a bigger fish than you? give the guy a break. and why don't all these BS-callers post pics of THEIR big catches?.......Hmmmm. Dude, that's an AWESOME CATCH! Ignore the negativity. this [censored] needs to stop! -Brian
