ARMADILLO JOE;
I meant Abu has been in the game longer than anyone.
I started throwing the almighty 5000 in 1972.

Lots of good suggestions. I would look at a Daiwa Sol too...especially if you lean toward lighter b8s.

what companies stock the ardent line. Living in west texas I don't have the luxury of going to a bps or cabelas to look at the extensive line of reels (or fishing all the great lakes all of you do in east texas). All I have is an academy and just recently a gander mountain. I haven't seen one in either store, and I am hesitant to buy anything that I cant hold and look at so I really dont want to buy it off the internet.

zachary---Go to Academy and get a Citica. You can get the reel for $119 or that reel and an All-Star rod for $139. I have 4 Citica's and fish them 3-4 days a week and no problems. You can get parts easily and lots of people service them. Ardent is probably great reel, but what about parts, what about service?

You don't have to worry about parts or service
with Revo's or 5500's. Keep them clean and oiled
and they are unstoppable. Caught fish this week
on Revo STX, 1976 5500c, 1969 5500.

Try ebay. I bought 5 at one time and got them for around $157.00 each.

Ask them at Gander Mouain to see if they will get you one from on of their other stores. If you try one you will throw rocks at the other brands. I have 14 of them sold all my Shimanos and am not the lease bit sorry. Out of the box an Ardent will outcast a Shimano or any of the rest.

A Revo S is comparable to a C4 4600-C4 5600? I sure liked the Record but I just don't really want to spend that much. I sure wish it was on sale. I was thinking seriously about the C4 4600 or 5600. Never bait casted at all. So I'm dreading putting that much down for a reel. I better be able to practice and get the hang of it alright...
