Once upon a time I was scrubbed in on a gallbladder removal case, Patient was wheeled in and placed on the OR table, positioned, prepped and ready for first incision, while all this is going on I am looking that the area we prepped and see a gallbladder surgery scar The general surgeon proceeds to make incision " thru the existing gallbladder scar" we get thru all the layers only to find There Was No Gallbladder!! There is nothing like seeing a grown man " Dr/God" fold and crumble in a panic upon recognizing that mistake. File this under Things I Remember.

Arrived at the hospital about 5am. Got through pre-op by six and on the table by 7:30. Woke up about 9am in post-op with four cuts in my abdomen and was out of the hospital by 12. Got home and found the biggest challenge was getting in and out of bed. I didn't realize how much you use your core muscles for such mundane activities. I guess I over stressed a little and started getting spasms at every cut. I've had broken bones, kidney stones and three herniated disks and the pain from the spasms was up there with any of them. That lasted about 30 minutes, and then I let my son help me in and out of bed. Woke up this morning and was doing a lot better. Mostly just sore on the left side where they pulled the gallbladder out. Able to get into the bed by myself but still needing a little assistance getting out. The Dr told my wife my gallbladder was very inflamed and it was a good thing I had it removed when I did. Good luck with your surgery Ratz don't mess around and wait, and have some young strong help handy just in case. John Your gallbladder is on the right side. Might want to see what they really removed. My scars from gall bladder surgery are right in the middle of my chest/stomach.

I guess I’ve forgotten the post-surgery pain, but I sure won’t forget the Pancreatitus pain. That was big!

Tramadol is a pizz poor pain management drug for most people. Might try the Advil Dual Action for a pretty good OTC analgesic.

Most have laparoscopic procedures with 3 small 1" scars usually.

Yeah they sent me home w Tramadol and ibuprofen. I take it during the day then half a Vicodin at night that I had left over from when I had kidney stones. And yes coughing is not fun. Hold a pillow kinda firmly against your abdomen if you need to cough. This technique is called splinting and adds some support to the musculature that has been cut.
