Anyone else seeing this, saw this over on the Canadians forum, seems to be a widespread issue. I've got a tank full of this overpriced shiat and now its got me worried, thinking about making the switch to premium plus. [Linked Image]

Several threads there about this happening. Don Weed at first denied it and then guys kept posting on it. If it happens to you, they say to contact Mercury with the batch/sku number. It’s pathetic that a person has to pay close to $60 bucks per gallon and deal with that.

Don Weed is wrapped a little too tight. If anything ain’t by the book then you’re wrong. His head about exploded when someone posted about a new company doing tunes on Merc 4 strokes.

I’ve heard of it but haven’t had that issue yet. I just poured another gallon in my tank so knock on wood it’ll be alright. Probably wouldn’t hurt for me to check the screen though. Do you have to reprime the system or anything after pulling that screen out?

The gelling thing is strange. Last summer the oil line from the remote to the reserve rotted out and I had to replace it. While I had the remote out I pulled the cap and examined the inside of the tank. There was a little (1/16th - 1/8th inch) dfi oil colored slime on the bottom of the tank that I cleaned out with a paper towel. Nothing like what you guys are talking about and I've run nothing but mercury DFI oil in it for 19 years....

I've used DFI oil on my last 3 Mercs, 2008, 2013 and 2018 and never had a problem... I've bought it in bulk and by the case... Dan confused 3

Remember last year when Yamaha 2 stroke oil wasn’t available? That was also gelling. I haven’t seen either brand come thru the shop with issues so far though

Anyone know why Pennzoil XLF is cheaper than Pennzoil premium plus? XLF has the more expensive additive package according blackstone oil analysis.

Sounds like a regional problem with something changed in one of the oil batches, not heard of this happening to anyone in TX yet.

Officially switched to pennzoil XLF in both the remote tank and dons cocktail I pre-mix with the gas, read plenty of reports of others switching the same with no problems with old Optimax. Hearing about to many quality control issues with the Merc oil, tech said he thinks Mercury has gone lax on QC for anything 2-stroke as it is being phased/aged out and they are overpricing it as well, its quite a sticker shock to see the price difference between quicksilver oil and pennzoil marine.

Ironically, DFI at BPS mysteriously has dropped in price some. Still not as low as the Pennzoil, but I’m guessing the word has been heard by enough to hurt sales at least a tiny bit. Pretty pathetic if the lack of QC on 2 strokes is true.

The DFI is still over $60 a gallon @ our local Academy, Quicksilver premium plus is $39.99 a gallon. Pennzoil XLF was $19 a gallon, the Pennz Premium Plus was $20. What do you think people are gonna buy when the overpriced one is clumping up like oatmeal.
