Yes many times (but I'm 67). And I remember them being a dime.
When I was in college (1976-80), I would call my parents "collect" from the dorm pay phone and they would refuse the call and then call me back on the same phone. A lot cheaper then the "collect" charges.

I used them all the time even when they cost a dime. I used to travel for work for many decades. The airports used to have banks of pay phones that people used.

Back in my younger days, my buddies and I delighted in making collects calls from a phone booth and charging them to the high school.

As a traveling salesman, I knew where all the good pay phones were. Inside and quiet. Motel lobbies were prime places to do business.

Back in those days working 80% in the field, I learned where some of the best pay phones were all over North TX. We had “calling card” numbers so no coins needed. My absolute favorite was the lobby of Loews Anatole Hotel that had a bank of “luxury” pay phone stations, complimentary coffee too.

Used to carry a pocket full of dimes back in the day. Was the only way to make a bootie call back then.
