Of course, even longer then most because I refused to pay for a cell phone for yearssssss.

We used to go to the movie theater when we were kids back in the late 60`s and early 70`s. There was a pay phone a block away that all the kids would use to call parents when movie was over. It was also used to call girl classmates. Most of the kids would call their parents and hang up so we didn`t have to put any $$$ in the pay phone. Our parents knew that a hang up call was time to come pick us up.

The post office does not have phones given to carriers. When I left they had scanners where they can send the carrier a message but it was one way.
Some who would spend all day talking on their phones would not return a call on their own phones and would drive as far as it took to find a pay phone instead, just so they could ask for the .25 payment. They could get away with it. Thats how ludicrous it was working for the PO.

UPS and FedX all will make trips during the day based on a customer requesting something. In the PO it was like pulling teeth to get some of them to lift a finger above what they were required to do.

Anyone 40 years or older, should have used a pay phone at one time or other.

Question number 2 - can you remember when a call was a dime?

I believe there’s still one at the convenience store on I-35w just south of I-20. Last time I used it was like 6 years ago.

Yep. Used to have a “calling card” too, saved a lot of money. I had to dial my calling card number, then “0”, then the number I was calling. Real PITA.
Had beepers too….before pagers. This thing just beeped. And I’d do the whole calling card thing, then the beeper service number where the girl answering the phone would give me any personal messages. I knew her by name. She sounded SOOOO beautiful over the phone. (<<<<<I WAS SOOO WRONG!!!!)
