Riding back home from Florida 25 years ago and stopped for the night, so I went downstairs to the bar for a beer and the doorman asked to hold my knife. It was a 4” fixed blade in a belt scabbard. I handed it to him, drank a beer, and when I picked up my knife I asked him why he didn’t want to hold the 8” crescent wrench that was in my back pocket. He said that it was a tool. I laughed all the way to my room

That’s an outrage! Call Univision out there to do an investigative report. I was leaning towards Telemundo. Went to see Sierra Hull, she's bluegrass for the most part. Mostly a bunch of old white guys and their wives. Never heard of a stabbing at a bluegrass jam. Although Bob Davis could probably get pretty rowdy. We are actually in Oklahoma at a bluegrass jam at Smokin Joes. I was just perusing the TFF and read this Still laughing. You are correct, they dont pat you down at bluegrass festivals..

This is the way the world is supposed to work. When your finally old enough to care about [censored] like this it’s a sign that your too damn old to be going to bars! Or at the very least, it's a sign that you're going to the wrong bar. Need to be going to bars like this one:

One time I walked into a bar in Temple. Middle of winter and there's a chick standing there in a two piece bikini. Only female in the bar. No, she didn't work there. Evidently she woke up that morning and chose Hoebag.

A couple of points...... First, most folks who carry a pocket knife carry it everywhere, always. It's not something you think about when entering a bar (or anyplace else); it's a part of your everyday attire. If I went somewhere that had a sign posted saying NO POCKET KNIVES PERMITTED I might think about it; otherwise, I only think about the knife in my pocket if I actually need it for something. I'd bet most folks are the same.
Second, while I understand the sentiment that some establishments have about eliminating weapons from the premises, I think some common sense should prevail. It's usually pretty obvious which knives are being carried as weapons, and which knives are being carried as tools. While my Mini Bugout could certainly be used as a weapon (along with my keys, my boots and my fists, and all of the chairs, table legs, glasses, bottles, and other weapons of opportunity that abound in a bar), if I was going to go somewhere armed, with a knife as my primary weapon, I wouldn't be carrying a Mini Bugout. I seldom go into bars, and as a retired cop I can carry a firearm legally in a bar, so I don't really have a dog in this hunt. But the idea that prohibiting a little pocket knife from the premises is keeping the patrons safe strikes me as being pretty naive.

Sierra Hull put on a great show! That little gal can sure play the mandolin, octave mandolin and guitar! Her lead guitar and fiddle player are some of the best I've heard, incredibly talented musicians and she is just as nice as can be. Heard Dan Tyminski is playing at Farmers Branch today, would have loved to hear that guy play.

I do not understand why you are upset. The bar is trying to protect their patrons and themselves. I'm old school I guess. I grew up in when a pocketknife was just a tool and a basic necessity. If a guy wanted to bring a knife into the bar he could easily conceal it to get through the security check. Not all bars do this, first for me. I remember when the bars west of FW on 80 gave you a knife if you didn't bring one. They still do down on 80

I've got a crazy story about a venue I went to in St. Louis a few years ago. There's a venue in St. Louis that is really two concert venues in one. There is a single entrance in to a foyer then from there it splits into these two smaller concert halls. I went one night with some friends to see another friend who was playing in a metal band. In the concert hall next door was a rap contest. I should also mention that when I entered, I was carrying. When I first entered, I saw they were patting people down and I thought, "oh [censored], I'm gonna have to walk back to the truck." When we got to the guy who was checking tickets, he saw ours were for the metal band and he let us right in! They were only frisking people going into the rap contest.
