Yes! Flooding in the engine room was sounded over the 1MC circuit. Not much to do except what I was supposed to which was shut the water tight door between the reactor compartment and the Operations compartment. Did it and waited for the boat to get crushed. We did an emergency surface and the Auxiliarymen got the flooding stopped. No knee shaking or anything, just resignation and a quick prayer.

Happened when I was elk hunting in Colorado one year. Walking just below a ridge line when the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I suddenly felt I should look up....a mountain lion was perched on a rock out cropping watching me. I backed down that trail in record time with the safety off to say the least. Forgot the prime lesson when out elk hunting.....keep your head on a swivel as you are NOT alone and you just another type of prey to something. Started carrying a Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum after that when ever I went hunting. I very seldom hunted alone but the other person could be 1/2 mile away sometimes on another ridge or in the draws or down by the creeks.

I once went bowhunting on the Arkansas River and heard someone yell from across the river " You sure gotta a Purdy on ya,squeal like a pig". Left as soon as possible. Long time ago but a I haven't been to Arkansas since then.

when i was about 15 i hunted a place that SHOULD have had a lot of deer. perfect mix of oaks and mesquite. very private and not hunted for years. me and my older brother hunted it. we saw one set of deer tracks all season. just one. one evening i was still hunting a fence line on the backside of the property. leaned up against a tree i could see for a ways down the fence line. about twenty yards away a large cat come slinky out the woods and went under the fence. he was tan in color. ill never forget watching the tail curl right under the bottom wire of the fence. as i was raising my gun he walked down into a little gully that i didnt know was there and disappeared. hair stood up on my neck and i was out of there!

My dad, when he was living in Alaska, was called by a outfitter friend to come help them find a grizzly that a client had shot but didn't anchor him. My dad went by himself up a small creek maybe a quarter to half mile and cut no sign but on the way back, still following the creek, he was going across a sandbar and there were grizzly tracks on top of his original tracks for quite a way. He said the 12 gauge felt mighty small and the .44mag was very insignificant and of course his hair was standing straight up on his neck.

My wife and I went to do some predator calling just before dusk. I parked the truck and had to pizz. I opened the door stepped out unzipped and let flow. As soon as the pizz hit the ground I heard the buzz of a rattlesnake. Yup I was pizzing on the rattlesnake. In less than a second I was standing right foot on the inside door handle and the left foot on the seat. Jimmy in my left hand I pulled my pistol with the right and shot the rattlesnake in the head.
