There's not enough information in the media report to make a valid assessment of the incident, but it sounds as if the PGA officials had told the participants to "drive around the cops in the median," they should have had personnel on location (and maybe they did? The media report doesn't say) to designate who was clear to disregard the police roadblock. Obviously, a traffic fatality investigation isn't conducted to convenience the local elites; the investigation should take precedence over a sporting event. The notion that ordinary citizens are subject to the regulations but the elites are not is a joke. A sporting event isn't an emergency, and they need to either shut the road down to everyone for the investigation, or not shut it down at all. Whoever decided to allow the elites through (PGA officials? Law enforcement? Mutual agreement?) apparently didn't consider how the plan was to be implemented. Someone should have been on scene to guide the elites through the process. Pi$$ poor organization.

I have played Colonial several times, it's a fun course to play.

Attending a golf tourney is only a tick above being on the water during a fishing tourney, having a lot more eye candy at a golf tourney gives it the nod.

I'd also be shocked if this is anything more than an overzealous cop, in the dark/early am, trying to coordinate the chaos of a normal early am at a major, with the tragic death of a pedestrian.
