You may have just got a bad roll (these companies are supposed to have QC but that's another topic) or it is just outdated and cycled the seasons a few times and got old. I would throw it away and get a new spool and try it.

The line is not that old and has not been exposed to sunlight or even hardly any artificial light since it was bought. I've been using BG 15 lb and 20 lb for probably 36 years or more and have never had this problem. I know of one other person who had this same issue recently and that is kind of why I wanted to see if this was an issue for many others on the board.

It's probably like everything else cost to make has gone up so quality has gone down. That would be my guess.

I've had a bad spool or two before. You could feel the bad spots and the difference with your fingers.
I went through a really bad stretch where I was popping the line on hookset and it cost me some wins/money. Tried different lines and different knots and still kept popping on hooksets, to the point that I was missing fish because I was afraid to set it hard....... which led to more frustration.
Finally had a buddy that mentioned that I was fishing with a longer rod(s) than I used to, was slacklining a bit and I was a really big boy to be swinging like that.
Backed off my drag a touch, concentrated on no slackline sets, if possible, making sure line was fresh and really paying attention to my knot. Been a minute since I lost one due to line popping since then.

if it was breaking within 10' of the lure you may need to check the line between casts, just pull 8-10' between your fingers feeling for frays.

when I fish texoma I check between every cast due to the rocks and where I like to fish. heavy brush etc will do it.

I have used big game 15# for probably 35 yrs. and don't remember any problems with bad line.

now have half bg 15# and half pline copolymer 15# (way too good a deal on some spools).

might try some of the pline to compare, price is right.

Eliminate variables. Easiest one first, check the guides, you did that. Next, throw away the spool and try a new spool...

See you on the lake and have a great day!

I used it for years, but 2 years ago I filled up several reels off a new bulk spool for a trip to Falcon. I broke off at least 4-5 fish the 1st day on more than one rod. Had to have been a bad batch. I threw the spool away. I’ve used it a few times since then ( different spools) with no issues, but prefer McCoy’s - it seems a lot stronger for the same lb test.

probably so...

Knot strength is subjective anyway. ANY line can be popped on a slack set.

I would love to see a hookset that will break 20lb big game.
