I use SC at the Walmarts, HEB, and HD all the time to avoid weirdos, dimwits, losers, and stinky people.

damn right we do, fewer trips to deal with all the idjits we olds have to put up with.

I will also point out that paris wal mart has more self checkout lanes now than staffed, half of the sc lanes are backed with bigger areas to set scanned stuff.

I can do sc with a full cart and still get done before a checker would, in n out and no dealing with the employees.

Amen on I can sc faster then checkers anyway but the stealing is bad because of it and runs prices up for all of us

They are Luddites and are often overheard saying that’s how they get you and it’s all about the money.

I use self checkout all the time except when we go to Sam’s. They are the only place I go where they check items in your basket that you have self checked. I won’t be put in a situation, if I accidentally missed an item or mis scanned an item, where I am accused by some clerk guarding the door. Otherwise, I look at self checkout as a quick and easy way of avoiding idiots and moving on with the day.

I use self checkout pretty much all the time at Kroger and Walmart. The folks running the registers at Kroger have no clue how to bag groceries. I will use maybe 1/3 of the bags they will use and be faster doing it. Most of the time they only have a couple manned registers anyway so nearly everyone uses sc.

If you have Walmart+, you can scan your items as you put them into the basket and then pay using the card on your account and go.

Self-checkout is so easy, I don't get the hate. The only time I really don't like it is when I'm buying my sweet potatoes at Fiesta. I buy around 25 pounds most of the time and if you have more than one bag of similar items (it takes 5 to 6 of those produce bags to get to that weight), then the employee has to come over and allow it. I just tell them to stand by and get done. Other than that, I prefer self-checkout.

I have no problem if a store decides to shift. Anything that stops theft should make my purchases less expensive. I do hope that means they will now have more manned checkout counters.

its not called theft you big dummy, your party has officially named it partial shrink.. roflmao

from the article: Limiting item counts could help cut down on something called "partial shrink," which is when a customer fails to properly scan and pay for all their items.

My gripe about self-checkout is when I buy beer and have to wait for someone to come over and verify my age. It can sometimes be a pretty long wait if the "associate" is busy with someone else.

If it is done by accident, I don't think theft is the correct term.
I also don't think the majority of this is accidental.
But... there is probably a good deal of partial shrink as well from honest people...

When they first came out, I didn't want anything to do with SC... But now I would rather use them instead of standing in line behind someone with a basket full of stuff.

I'm the dummy and you're eating their cheese? Sorry that I offended you.

I don't believe scanners are faster checking. They have more of them and the lines are shorter IMO.
Once you get to the front of the line, checkers move your stuff through pretty fast. A lot faster than I could.
