Wrote an article about it on GF if you are interested.

Catch Co. d/b/a Mystery Tackle Box was sold to Gordon Brothers through an Assignment for The Benefit Of Creditors (ABC). This sale marked the end of Ross Gordon’s tenure as the CEO of Catch Co.

I got a few boxes, the problem IMO was if you had 5 items in it- 2 or 3 would be garbage. I don’t need a lunkerhunt spider or some walleye jerk bait.

During my research, it seemed that was the most common complaint... value of the box.

Mystery Tackle Box always seemed like a cheesy and ridiculous prank gift to me.

So is the owner also the owner of Gordon brothers? Sounds like he made his money off MTB, then loaned the money back to the company.

I believe it's just coincidence name wise. I don't think they are associated or related.

Wonder how this affects Googan Squad. Aren't some of their baits produced by Catch Co.

I think House of Outdoors owns the Googan Squad name and brand.

Not true. Googan and catch co aren't the same company and never have been.

This is correct. Googan licensed many categories to Catch Co and had a fruitful partnership for years, but HOO/ Googan is one of many unsecured creditors in this. On the positive side, there are active negotiations with Gordon Brothers about taking back all the licensed categories and products. We expect a good outcome going forward for both parties.
Some day, there will be a story to tell about what went wrong and why, but that time is not now. The post-Covid landscape for the outdoor industry is challenging across the board. Most companies reacted to record breaking sales in 2020 and 2021 by thinking it was simply going to continue, but the rising cost of living and lack of stimulus checks going straight to tackle purchases have created a lot of industry headwind. Almost like those two things go hand in hand.

I’’m still bullish on this industry and incredibly excited about what we’ve got going with Googan.
