I (and buddies) have caught more than what's typical for the colder months this year, on cut. I have a feeling it's going to be a solid April/May on the Brazos.

It's still indicative of where the trophy fish are. OP didn't specify method.

Are Flatheads good to eat? They make Great table fare however The size & age of the fish will make a difference. Some will say no but I guess it`s just a matter of taste (yes suh) it`s just a matter of taste. I use to be a snob about flathead Catfish until a past lady friends mother,in south Louisianna introduced me to Court bouillon and etouffee. It changed my mind 4 ever. laissez les bon temps rouler

Are Flatheads good to eat? I have never had one. Only caught 3. One on a crankbait, one on a jig and one on cut shad. Back to the taste though... many guys will say they are the best thing eating in fresh water. I have never met anyone who had one who did not say it was special. I have been told you fillet them more like butchering a hog than cleaning a fish. They even have backstraps.

Are Flatheads good to eat? They’re pretty dang good I must say. I keep the ones I catch. Theyre not quite crappie or walleye, but theyre much better than channels and blues. I always heard it had to do with their diet. Wherever you fish, check consumption advisories. If there is one, (generally for Mercury) flatheads are not often one of the first fish to make the list. Predator fish tend to be higher in mercury and flatheads are THE apex predator in texas waterways.
