Where are of the best places to Catch some really big or trophy size flathead Catfish in Texas?. Heard a lot of big ones come from the Brazos and Trinity Rivers.

They are in most of the big lakes and rivers. You need to use live bait to target them.

That’s probably about as much as you’re going to get answer wise. They’re a different beast than blues and the folks who know where the big ones can be found are going to be tight lipped with that type of information. Structure is your friend and you want a big live bait-sunfish, suckers, carp, bullheads, gizzard Shad (if you can keep them alive) and drum are all good options. You don’t want you bait just alive, but you want it to be lively. I find it important to use baits that come from the same watershed as where you are fishing. I usually use sunfish and I try to catch them at the spot I intend to fish.

Mckinney is on point.
Both of the mentioned rivers hold good Flatheads.
They're a little more tricky to specifically target in lakes, although it can be done. They hold up during the day and primarily feed at night. Personally, I prefer to day fish for them because they're easier to pin point. Early morning and late afternoon. It just depends if they're willing to eat or not. I target wood, rocks, or both, close to deep water or in a scour hole. Cover is #1. Deep water or hole is a bonus. I position baits as close to the cover as possible. 4-6 set ups. Half lively baits (Green Sunfish, Bluegill, Polywog, puppy drum, large gizzard shad, etc) and the other half is large pieces of fresh cut (gizzard shad, sunfish, drum are my favorites). I've had days where they wouldn't touch cut bait and I've had days where it was 50/50. But I'll always have live baits out.
At night I'll target sand bars, flats, creek mouths, retaining walls, riprap, or ledges. What they all have in common is they're near deep holes with cover. At night I use live bait almost exclusively. I'll fan cast 8-10 rods and maybe 1 or 2 will have cut. But when Flatheads hunt, they're attracted to the vibration of a lively baitfish, in my experience. It's as much huntin as it is fishin. Good luck! They're a rewarding fish for sure.

It’s also worth mentioning that April, may, and October are really the only good months for flatheads.

Texoma has produced a few 100+ lb flatheads and a ton of smaller (but big) ones. Live bait is the best. Drifting is good. And sometime bass fishing is good. 😁 ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2024/02/full-20037-213629-img_1603.jpeg)

Once archery season rolls around I pretty much hanging up the fishing gear until the end of the season. But, the few years I’ve given it a go in October I have had some good luck.

Always time if you make time, I may give it a go if I stick one of my target bucks early. Which is the "plan" see how it goes.

"Me and Drew Moore swam in this hole side by side at 14 feet deep" how did they get that thang from 14 ft down to the surface to boat it ???
MERCY - not receiving what you deserve GRACE - receiving what you don't deserve Preach the gospel at all times; USE WORDS IF NECESSARY "It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness." This is as good as it gets ! I never rod and reel fished for flatheads, but caught a lot on trotlines and throw lines years ago. These are the places I targeted. I used mostly mudcats, red perch, and slick jims (green sunfish) for bait. Goldfish were a stand in if I couldn’t catch enough bait. Good luck, and it is really more like hunting than fishing.
