Is somerville area really that bad?

I live in bastrop county - every area has its bad spots.

I want to start camping and launching at The Birch Creek Unit. I have a wife and a 3 year old kid Is this area safe to be camping and fishing? Dont want some methheads coming into our campsite at 3am or some [censored].

I frequent both units at various times of the year, mainly to use their boat ramps. They have a state park police that patrol the parks. The COE parks lock their gates at night.

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

In a world of compromise.....Some don't.

Thanks guys - I Really like the ramps at Birch Creek with my none 4x4 truck. I've only been once though. Safety of my family is first and foremost. Rocky Creek Park is equal distance but longer route due to roads. If it is safer though I will check it out.

Fished a rock pile off the dam face lake side, caught nothing but saw tons of fish surfacing. Lake was really rough on 8/22 due to the winds.

Lake Level is at 233 ft. 5 ft. below normal. The COE started releasing over 400 cfs. in early August and dropped that to 171 cfs a couple weeks ago.

I haven't seen many people fishing the spillway. I tried a couple times but mainly just caught goo.

Better start doing the rain dance now so we'll have a good white bass run. banana

Yeah, we could sure use some rain for Lake Travis
and the Highland Lakes area, also...Lake Travis has dropped 3ft+ in the last 30 days😥
So not sure if going to be a decent White Bass Fall run/bite this year or not🧐
Doing the rain dance of all Central Texas Lakes taz taz thumb

Disappointed to see Lake Somerville hasn't come up at all. We got some pretty good rain in Austin over the last week, but I guess it didn't make it out that way.

Lake Level is 231.85. 6.15 feet below normal. Currently the projection is less than 0.5 inches over the next few hours. I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best though. banana

Lake Granger is almost at full pool, up about two feet from beginning of November. This area must be getting more rain.

Got a long ways to go frown
I'm in the Austin area and can head to Granger as a backup at least.
