Amen brother. I inherited a Calcutta salt water surf rod from my Dad's father (now over 90 years old. Only problem is that the connection is evidently permanently fused together. Too many years had been spent in hot attic. A real sentimental trophy.

Maybe give them a trial. I have one set up with an ultra light reel. A real treat to catch them girls in a primitive style.

Love the picture. I have not fished with a cane pole since I was a kid. Picture brought back some memories.

Your story reminds me of my early days in Florida. A little town called Wewahitchka on the dead lakes. We had a cabin there and I could walk about 75 ft to the waters edge. I've been thinking about what happened to my cane pole. When I got older I could take out the wooden sculler and fish the stumps in that end of the lake. I wasn't allowed to cross the channel but there was plenty to occupy a 12 year old just around there.

Thanks for reminding me of that time. I need to find a new cane pole but the ones I see are nowhere as good as the one I had back then. They all seem to be 12 feet long and cut from a mature cane stump.

I fish on a 14 ft piece of plastic.

Back before I retired and found the back issues prevented me from wetting hooks, the rural tackle shops were the go-to.
I did however pick up some two piece 10 footers off e-bay back in 2012.
Sure wish the kiddoes would give them a try and give the gaming some R&R.

Saturday mornings in Temple my pepaw would come get us before sunup with cane poles hanging out the car window. We'd go to the Blue Bonnet Cafe for biscuits and gravy, and he'd let us wash it down with a RC Cola even though it was 6am. Then we'd drive out to the marina on Lake Belton and catch blue gills until lunch time. Good Ole cane pole days. Would make a fun book to read, Memories of A Cane Pole. Thanks for sharing your story and yes, I have a cane pole in the garage.

Yup! Dirt cheap on Amazon and so much fun with a small bluegill feeling like it's 10x bigger than it actually is

How I learned to fish on our farm ponds. Not the same thing but I have thought about getting a Tenkara rod for bluegill fishing but like everything else not sure where to fish with it living in Lubbock.
