10 years or so ago, we built a mid 90’s Toyota Supra that was capable of 1100-1200 hp. Pretty crazy for a 6 cylinder turbo car. It would run 9’s and dip into the 8’s a few times. That era of the Supra was fantastic. That was the car that really opened my eyes to what was possible from an import 6 banger. The performance of that car still holds up by today's standards. Amazing vehicle. Those 90s supras were bad ace. The new one is a turd with a BMW engine. I can’t figure out for the life of me why Toyota put a BMW engine in their sports car.

Driving 2020 F150 Limited with eco boost. 450 hp,510 lb torque. Can be tuned to little over 500 hp. Low 11 quarter mile. That is wild. Having never driven a pickup with that kind of get-up-and-go, I can't imagine how you'd get the power down to the pavement. It seems like it would be a complete smoke show on those rear tires when you drop the hammer for a sub-12 second pass. Either way, super cool.

Yeah, the release of that car was a monumental letdown.

Low 11 quarter mile. would have gone that route if those specs had been available, best I could get in the 14 was the 5.0 for hp/torque, ecoboost was right there but not enough rotating mass to convince me it would last 250k miles. I'm happy with my 5.0

They didn’t put a bmw motor in a their car, they put their badge on a bmw. Magna Steyr builds them but they also build G wagens so they know what they’re doing.

I would enjoy driving something like that.

Oh, well you may want to let the execs at Toyota know then. https://www.motor1.com/news/298196/toyota-supra-bmw-engine-explanation/amp/“ The easiest way to obtain one was to ink a deal with BMW and grab their 3.0-liter you’ll find in the Z4 M40i as well as in the new M340i. Toyota decided against developing its own straight-six, which although did upset purists, it’s a business move that makes sense considering the Supra won’t be a high-volume car.”

The factory super charged 32 valve 4.6 terminator engines in the 2003-2004 cobras were beasts in their day as well.
Not much better sound than that whining super charger as it screams past you.

I don’t care who assembles it. The fact is, it’s not a Toyota engine, or even really a Supra. Toyota should be ashamed for putting the Supra name on it. The 90s supras were bad ace, the new ones are trash. Also as much as a hate the ricer crowd, the 2JZ engine in the 90s supras, and a few Lexus vehicles, should also be mentioned as one of the best engines of all time.

Ford 302 without a doubt. If talking diesel 7.3 without a doubt. Don’t doubt the instant response of a sharp 302 or longevity of a 7.3. Really is that simple.
