If Formula Drift ever comes back to Texas, or if you get a chance to go see them somewhere else, you should go check that out.

Those are some of the wildest cars I have ever laid eyes on, and a bunch of those machines are topping 1000hp out of *tiny* engines. It is absolutely crazy how much power can be squeezed out of a small engine these days.

yeah, saw a show the other day that they were squeezing about 750hp out of a six in a rice burner, totally nuts.

the ones I like seeing are the turbo fed superchargers, some engineering in those set ups.

You should have been at the inaugural when they were running the V8s.

I watch too many car shows. nuts

I don’t think they make a 3.7 ecoboost
Probably meant 2.7 ?

They have a 3.5 and a 2.7.

10 years or so ago, we built a mid 90’s Toyota Supra that was capable of 1100-1200 hp. Pretty crazy for a 6 cylinder turbo car. It would run 9’s and dip into the 8’s a few times.

The T-type Grand National had a pretty impressive and innovative engine for its time

uhhh, no, 3.7

don't know if they still use that platform but it was an option in my truck vs. the 5.0

2011–2014 Ford F-150[7] 302 hp (225 kW) at 6,500 278 lb⋅ft (377 N⋅m) at 4,000 Ti-VCT

3.7 L
The Duratec 37 is a 3.7 L; 227.4 cu in (3,726 cc) version of the Cyclone V6 intended to power heavier or premium vehicles. The 3.7 L's additional displacement comes from an increase in bore diameter to 95.5 mm (3.76 in), stroke remains identical to the 3.5 L at 86.7 mm (3.41 in). Ford Power Products sells this engine as the CSG-637 for industrial uses starting in mid-2015, which replaced the 4.2L Essex and is manufactured under license by Engine Distributors Inc.[5]

A Hiroshima, Japan assembled Mazda MZI 3.7 was installed in the 2008 Mazda CX-9 and was the first 3.7 L Cyclone V6 to see production. The first Ford application of the 3.7 L was the 2009 Lincoln MKS.

A few days before the 2009 Los Angeles International Auto Show, Ford unveiled a new version of the 3.7 L for the 2011 Mustang, making it the first Duratec-badged V6 since the Lincoln LS to be used in a production rear-wheel drive car. Due to packaging differences in transverse applications, the water pump was relocated to the valley behind the timing cover and is driven by the timing chain. This version of the 3.7 L (3,726 cc) features Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT); delivers 31 mpg‑US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg‑imp) highway mileage in the Mustang, and was the first production engine to deliver in excess of 300 hp (224 kW) and 30 mpg‑US (7.8 L/100 km; 36 mpg‑imp).[6]

Yeah that’s not an ecoboost- never was. Being a natural aspirated v6 it was very low on torque.

turn it in to an ecoboost and you have a beast on your hands tho, for its size anyway. grin

twin turbos, turn up the boost, and you could get 700 out of it I bet, naturally aspirated it has 300 hp and great mileage.

torque was main reason I passed when looking for a truck.

I think it had the same (or just about the same) build specs as the GNX but without the McLaren turbo goodies.

That era of the Supra was fantastic. That was the car that really opened my eyes to what was possible from an import 6 banger.

The performance of that car still holds up by today's standards. Amazing vehicle.

Driving 2020 F150 Limited with eco boost. 450 hp,510 lb torque. Can be tuned to little over 500 hp. Low 11 quarter mile.

would have gone that route if those specs had been available, best I could get in the 14 was the 5.0 for hp/torque, ecoboost was right there but not enough rotating mass to convince me it would last 250k miles.
