Dave gives TOUGH advice people need to hear. If you are a financial guru, some of his advice is probably not optimal, but if you have a poor to average financial education his advice is pretty dang sound.

One piece of advice of his I love is that your monthly vehicle expense should not exceed 10% of your net monthly income on a 4-year note. (After tax, after 401K, after medical). (if you absolutely can't pay cash which of course he prefers).

Which means one of two things... All these people you see driving $80K trucks pulling $80K boats. They are all either making $175K+ a year, they've been gifted a bunch of money.... or they are really bad with money. bolt

I've got two clients, husband and wife, that are both surgeons.

One day they asked me how it was that everybody they knew had more cars, better cars, more expensive vacations, better vacations, etc. They were like, "We know we do pretty well for ourselves, but we can't afford to live like that."

Exactly.

Dave Ramsey advice, take it or leave it. isn't for everybody but nothing is. What is your plan for achieving wealth?

Do you have a proven plan?

I've had this conversation with my wife many times.

He has one heck of a headquarters here in Nashville! I wonder if he can keep up the payments?

My plan is pretty simple actually. Live within my means and soak up that full pension here in a couple of years at 52 years old. Might feel sporty and start a new job and build another retirement but who knows. Probably keep driving my truck that has almost 200,000 miles on it and paying into my nice emergency fund and my supplemental IRA that I’ve been building for the last 25 years. Then I’ll soak up some of more of the wife’s six figure income. Might even retire next year just before I turn 49 if the numbers work out. Never can tell what I’ll do but I’m feeling alright.

According to what he said on his radio shows many times, he paid for it as it was built. No payments at all.
