Thumbs up on the Haymaker! Itโ€™s devastating with a creature/beaver style bait, penetration is superior to any other EWG out there in my opinion. Iโ€™ve never hooked so many fish in the โ€œ jaw plate โ€œ and between the eyes as I have with this hook, and no lost fish as of yet. Try a 3/0 with your favorite flipping bait and see for yourself.

Why is it legit? Because of the angle of the hook point vs. a standard EWG?

Wider gap, angle of hook point, and stout heavy wire. With thick creature baits Iโ€™ve never had one ball up on the hook and almost always pins the fish in the top of the mouth.

^^^^ I think itโ€™s obvious that hook point angle plays a huge role in effective hookups. The standard EWG typically hooks a fish in the corner of his mouth or bottom jaw, or you miss the fish completely. Standard EWG is my last resort.

Looks like a standard Owner wide gap hook with the hook point bent out a little.

Seeing EWG hooks on the deck of someone's boat is the easiest way to tell they they don't know what they're doing. EWG's have their place but people use them for a lot of techniques they shouldn't.

3/0 offset for a senko for me (straight shank if I'm flipping it).

So your saying the creator of the senko doesn't know what he is doing? Cuz he recommends a 3/0 EWG

lol not exactly. I used to throw exclusively EWG hooks (including in senkos), not my preference anymore. I more so mean that I think its funny when I see someone throwing a baby brush hog with a 5/0 EWG super-line hook, or a seven inch curly tail worm with a big EWG stuck into it.

2/0 for four inch stick baits and tiny flukes
3/0 for five inch regular thickness stick baits and super fluke jrs
4/0 for five inch thicker stick baits and six inch regular thickness stick baits
5/0 for seven inch regular thickness stick baits and super flukes
6/0 or 7/0 for magnum flukes

Same here...the Roboworm rebarb hooks are my primary go to for many applications. C-rig is the one exception, I use the straight shank hooks.

Your statement is not true at all. The EWG is a great hook to use for many techniques but you do need to use the correct size for the bait you are throwing.

I use a 1/0 EWG on a drop shot with a trick worm and it works very well.
