Me and some buddies got to meet Lee Livesay recently at a crawfish boil. Played cornhole with him and his group. You couldn’t have met a nicer person than him.

Woo Daves was one of the good ole boys. I rode with him a couple days at Megabucks. He was not doing very well but his attitude was good. He kept trying different things, just never got on em.
At one point he started talking about his beagles that he used for hunting. The favorite was like a family member. Lived in the house. He told me about going hunting with them one time and he heard his dog start yelping. A group of dogs had got to him and he said he could see his intestines sticking out of him. He had the guy he was with run back to get the truck while he picked up his dog and started making his way back. They stitched up the dog and it was ok. I looked at him and saw his eyes were tearing up telliing me the story. He was smiling.
I'd like to have a beer with him.

Roland Martin story....back in late 70's I lived in Greenville,Ms.... I had the opportunity to sit and talk to Roland for about 30 mins one year at the Dallas Boat Show. He was at the peak of his career and he ACTED like it. He was probably the most arrogant pro-angler I have ever had the chance to meet and I have met more than a few. I wouldn't buy a hot Old Milwaukee for that dude. I read a statement somewhere he made a few years ago where he said if he had any regrets it was that he wasn't nicer to people earlier in his career.

Many years ago I bought a rod that he said was the most sensitive rod he had ever used. It was designed where you could add weight to the back of the rod to make it balance better. I thought, he has used a ton of different rods in his career so he must know what is best, so I bought one based on his recommendation. It turned out to be the most non-sensitive rod I have ever used, even with braided line. I returned it back to the store and never listened to a thing he had to say after that lesson.

I've been fortunate to hang with quite a few of the guys both on and off the water. Roumbanis, Crochet, Tharp, Ike, Paulaunik, Swindle. Hanging out with Cliff is always fun.

I'm happy to say my team whipped up on his team. I then challenged him to a 1 on 1 derby on Fork and he politely declined after what happened on the corn hole board. Lee was still a gentleman, nonetheless.

His son isn’t any better. I’ve heard a lot of stories about him but saw it first hand a few years back when we ran into him pulling into a restaurant after a tournament on Ouachita. I don’t know if he had a bad day or what but he was rude to a couple of young kids that wanted a pic and an autograph. When they approached him he didn’t even slow down as he told them he didn’t have time. The kids didn’t seem to be too caught off guard by it but you could tell the parents were. I lost all respect for him that evening and realized that everything I had heard was true. I felt bad for the family and I didn’t even know them.

Scott Martin. I’ve met and talked with him several times at tournaments and he is just as you see in videos. Zero acting. I know Matt Robertson and he is a good guy too, unfortunately he doesn’t act either.

I met Roland Martin twice back in the 90s I guess. He was nice but reserved. I won a reel on Ebay from Scott about 10 years or so ago and we spoke on the phone for about 20 minutes. He was super nice.

Sounds like my Banjo Minnow story.

I always laugh at the story he told when I got to “his spot” on day 2 of a tourney and another boat was on it. He went to cussing the guy as they were rub tail to rub rail. Roland picked up a an anchor and was going to swing at the guy and as he looked up the other guy had a 1911 pointed at Roland’s face….lol. Yeah he promptly left that spot..😆
