My son is three weeks removed from shoulder surgery. We are in the dfw area and used Dr Meister at TMI Sports Medicine. If your labrum is completely torn then I believe the normal process is to anchor and suture. That was the process we were prepared for but once under sedation and scope they only had to clean up the tears which were causing the friction. Dr likened it to having a pebble in your shoe. Sometimes you can walk all day and other times you cant take a step. Meister is a great ortho. I had a torn rotator tendon about 20 years ago . I was coaching my sons baseball team and didn't want to miss out on throwing BP . The tendon was 2/3 torn , barely hanging on and very painful. They tried a cortisone shot and that seemed to make it worse . The Dr wanted to schedule surgery , but I opted for 3 days a week of PT for 10 weeks . When I was finished , I had zero pain and it never came back . 6 years later , I was throwing long toss from 250feet with my kid and it never hurt again . Stabilizing the socket with extensive exercise worked great for me . Had the same thing and did the PT also and it worked for me. The cortisone shot helped tremendously with the pain.

I had all this stuff you've got: Bicep tendon torn from rotator cuff tear. Also bursitis in the shoulder and calcium build-up from a 20's collar bone break. They cut and re-attached the bicep tendon, shaved away the bad rotator cuff area, removed the bursitis and ground down the calcium knot. I had it done by William McChesney in Tomball (just north of Houston), and it went well. It was about 6 years ago for me. My strongest advise: DO THE THERAPHY - all of it. With what you're having done, it will be a bear, but it's worth it. I'm 63 and still lift weights ~ 4 days a week - including bench press, and no problems. Good luck, and do the therapy.

Live in Houston. Have two BAD shoulders. Any Ortho will do shoulder surgery but...the shoulder is not as simple as a knee so go to one that only works on shoulders. Most ALL will tell you that you need the surgery. Few will tell you the hell you will go through with the P Therapy and how long it takes. Go to a "conservative" doctor. Meaning one that will only do surgery if it is the only alternative. I use Dr. T Bradley Edwards. I'm 65 and still no surgery! I am not saying you dont need surgery but I know LOTS of people who have had multiple operations on the same shoulder and it still is hurting and not right. Good luck.

I am in the Lake Charles area and just had a MRI on my shoulder. It showed a tear in a tendon, loose cartilage, and severe inflammation. I am scheduled to see an orthopedic on Monday morning. I think one option includes includes a repair of the tendon (do they just stitch it up?), and remove loose cartilage and smooth out the remaining joint. Or a total shoulder replacement if the surgeon deems it irreparable.
Any recommendations on an orthopedic surgeon in the Houston area for a second opinion?
Dr. Terry Siller in Texas City. He has done ALL my joint surgeries. Great Man. Greater surgeon.

I had both shoulders replaced in 2020. Left shoulder took 5 weeks of therapy, right took 6 weeks. The surgeon said it was the worst he had seen.
