I am in the Lake Charles area and just had a MRI on my shoulder. It showed a tear in a tendon, loose cartilage, and severe inflammation. I am scheduled to see an orthopedic on Monday morning. I think one option includes includes a repair of the tendon (do they just stitch it up?), and remove loose cartilage and smooth out the remaining joint. Or a total shoulder replacement if the surgeon deems it irreparable.
Any recommendations on an orthopedic surgeon in the Houston area for a second opinion?

I'm guessing you went to the Drez group in LC.
No recommendations for H-town but shoulders are tough. Good luck. (Mrs. RayBob does pre-op patient interviews and they do have one good where she works in Livingston, Tx).
It's a krap shoot even if you go to a good group (such as the Fondren Group) you can still get one of their weaker surgeons.
Nobody in Beaumont IMO ! Well, maybe Daniel Thompson but he specializes in trauma . He's excellent.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

My son is three weeks removed from shoulder surgery. We are in the dfw area and used Dr Meister at TMI Sports Medicine. If your labrum is completely torn then I believe the normal process is to anchor and suture. That was the process we were prepared for but once under sedation and scope they only had to clean up the tears which were causing the friction.
Dr likened it to having a pebble in your shoe. Sometimes you can walk all day and other times you cant take a step.

If you can get to DFW then Dr Dan Cooper at the Carrell Clinic, is who’d I’d go to. He’s the Cowboys team Dr and he’s the GOAT when it comes to knee and shoulder surgery. I’m currently paying for a recently repaired knee by Dr Cooper.

Find a good doctor. Mine was Dr. Anil Koganti at Baylor Scott & White, Dallas. Hi business card says "Shoulders", nothing else.
But be ready for the recuperation. Do the Therapy. And don't expect to be "perfect" for about a year. Shoulders are hard.

I had a torn rotator tendon about 20 years ago . I was coaching my sons baseball team and didn't want to miss out on throwing BP . The tendon was 2/3 torn , barely hanging on and very painful. They tried a cortisone shot and that seemed to make it worse . The Dr wanted to schedule surgery , but I opted for 3 days a week of PT for 10 weeks . When I was finished , I had zero pain and it never came back . 6 years later , I was throwing long toss from 250feet with my kid and it never hurt again . Stabilizing the socket with extensive exercise worked great for me .

MyCollor bone and my sholder on my left side have seperated on the outer end, they are still trying to figure a final determent, it has been over 7 months with me on stroids and pain patches VA, main problum seems to be: 1 age, 2 prior surgeries to that sholder, and a loss of my right hand (w/sugery, no hands) with the required work a stabilization of that arm during healing has them confused.... pardon for the spelling erros, one finger typing is a real bea--!
You bettcha! oofta!

physical therapist says its a little different. needles go into muscle instead of targeting nerves (or something like that ). said they are targeting trigger points . i have a torn tendon in front that is causing muscle cramping in the back of shoulder.

My son did it when he was recovering from a broken fibula. PT used it to stimulate the calf muscle and promote muscle contraction. He said he’ll never do that again and he has an amazingly high pain tolerance.
