The problem I see with that is that old people do not know when its time.
With my parents and my wifes parents as the examples I know of, one knew when to quit. The others all had to be told.
My next older brother went home to take care of mom and dad in their last years. We had to have a talk with my dad when my brother told me that dad was driving 45 mph on I10 heading to San Antonio from Seguin. Mom just quit although she always was the second driver, just wanting to ride if someone else could drive.
My wife's parents both had to have their keys confiscated. Both had dents and events that preceded it to show they got to them too late.

holy chit balls --- a post from Cliff that I can agree with !!!!! My MIL had to have her keys taken and car sold at 81 . She was a bad driver when younger and got really bad as she approached 70's .
I had to sit down with all my wife's sisters and spell out the financial consequences she could face if she had a serious injury accident .
my 88 year old father ---still drives and is a safer driver now than when younger

If you think 60 is to old to drive a car then why are airline pilots allowed to fly until age 65 in the USA and there is talk of allowing it to go to 67
? Some other nations already allow age 67 for airline pilots; the caveat being that they can pass their physicals and checkrides
I know that pilots have to have a physical or 2 per year so that will alleviate some of the concerns about physical ability and check rides can help determine mental capacity but there have actually been recent cases of an active operating crewmember passing away while in the cockpit-I won't post the links but you can just google it.

So-if 60 is to old to operate an automobile I guess it should be to to old to operate an airplane with paying passengers then too?

My wife went with my 96 year old aunt to get her drivers license renewed this week. Took about 15 minutes and out the door. I know people 18, 35, 55 that can’t drive as good as she can. If drivers license renewal examination and restrictions are good for 70 year olds or 96 year olds, then they should be good for all ages. How about every driver go through an exam every 5 or 7 years after they get their license?

Stupid to base anything, let alone driving rights, on age.

Having watched elderly family go through it, and one day my wife & I will, I'm a firm believer that some folks should have annual written & driving tests to renew their licenses.

That would include not only the elderly, but anyone involved in a collision or moving violation in the past year.

Nah - I don't want anyone taking my license.

DPS renewed mine online for 8 years which surprised me at age 72 (then) with no eye exam. Never have had a ticket or a wreck so wonder if that is part of the process. I didnt argue just in case I live to 80 lol.

Hadn't thought of that but that's a good one too.

I wished I didn't start this thread. I was only joking with it, just yankin chains. Just thinking about some of the things posted, taking of cars and DLs and no voting rights and crazy stuff like that is dang near depressing. I was raised by my grand parents and they are the greatest people I've ever known (RIP Connie and Loyd). There would be no limit to my rage if I found out someone had even tried to treat them in these ways.

I'm 63 and ride a bike most of the time. I need a sticker for the back, "you just passed by an old"
