My Dad never gave me a lot of advice, he worked hard all his life, loved his family, loved to fish and hunt, was very generous and kind, I tried to be just like him.

PGR has been full of advice for my whole life. Too much of it I didn't listen to and wish I had. One of the best bits of his advice was that if you can't pay cash for it you can't afford it. That he got from my grandpa who like my dad never had any debt (not counting house payments, but he's never had a car payment.).

"Learn them computer things"...did that and lived pretty well from that advice.
Oh and don't worry about pleasing everybody....'cause you never will. Just be honest and do the best you can...
He was the last of his WW2 unit too die....and the most quite of them all with a bag full of medals I never knew about until he died.

Be accountable for your own actions, and that’s what we tried to instill in our kids, I think it stuck with them too

Food vendors at the fair . . .
"Never buy food from someone who will be 2 states away by the time you get sick . . ."
Served me very well over the years.

My Dad left to go get cigarettes when I was 5 years old. He never came back.
After I had kids I figured I probably should not be a smoker.

Well, my dad just messaged me to say that the VA oncology department has stopped his cancer treatments because he's too far gone. He's been dealing with this for a few years now, so he's outlived the initial prognosis of 4-6 months. They told him to get his affairs in order and he's getting hospice care lined up with them.
Haven't really had much of a relationship with him for my adult life, so I'm not sure how I should be feeling. It's just weird right now.
Anyways, best advice he gave me as a kid was "don't point that damn gun at anybody", "always double check your knots", and my favorite - "all women are crazy". I wish both of you comfort and peace. Very sorry yall are dealing with this. Cancer sucks.

"Don't forget to duck" is what he told me as I entered the Marine Corp. The rest, I learned on my own.

“Swim or drown” as he threw me in the deep end of the pool and walked off.

Mine pulled himself up by his own bootstraps, took care of our whole extended family and was straight up with folks in whatever he did and a good Christian man.
