Are the suburban ones good as country ones?

Sure are. Used to shoot them at college, on campus with a sling shot. Carried them to the dorm and fried them up there. Old ones are better if you boil them and then make some dumplings to go with them.

this is what I have.

Just the cob? No corn? Does it have to be fresh or would frozen work?

If I could get them all on that bottom branch... I could plink them from my window and have a great backdrop in case of misses. Shooting fish in a barrel. When they are scampering around 40 feet up in the branches of a fully leafed out Elm... its tougher to get the drop on them.

You can get hard dry cobs at tractor supply. my feeder is kind like a wood picnic table screwed to a tree with a 4" wood screw going through the table top middle. Just screw the cob onto the table top

Another option that is more discreet is snares. You can make them out of any heavy gauge wire. Place them directly in the path of their runs, tops of fences, on limbs, especially near the feeder you set up to draw them in. You will know when you catch one. They will make some noise.

Nope .. Southern State College in Arkansas. Home made sling shot with ball bearings was deadly weapon back then.

When you get done with the tree rats, come take care of the 200 neighborhood cats running through my yard.

I am fortunate that I can pop them on the ground with a .22. I shot at them with my long barrel S&W for a while but I educated as many as I hit so I switched to the rifle. Last year I killed 10. Abbey brings the carcasses to me. [Linked Image]

I have a Benjamin .177 pellet that I use but the sights get out of whack too easy. I dropped one out of the tree and into the pool. Wife wouldn’t swim for 6 months.

I have also used a large mouse trap baited with peanut butter. Tie it down with string in case its still kickin for a bit. Trap works great but keep in mind- it does not discriminate against birds, cats, dogs and fingers.
