Prince could play as well but he died. Travis Tritt is actually one of the best, most under appreciated guitarist still alive

I remember the now EX gf was asking me how I could listen to that old country, she hated it. Probably just as much as I hated that nasty beat thumping booty music c-Rap she listens to. That older generation had more talent in their little finger than any of these new artists. They didn't have some computer generated track to cover mistakes. they HAD to play it live and actually sing it with out auto tune and synthesizers. The likes of Dolly, George Jones, Patsy, Willie and Merle, Cash...shoes that can never be filled as far as talent. Agree..

Roy and Glenn were amazing musicians. When I started I had no lessons so basically I'd take a record player and have to move the needle back to the parts I wanted to learn over and over again. I'd wear out needles and ruin the records, but that's how I learned to play. Today there are some kids, and I mean 10 years old and younger, who can literally smoke a lot of us older players...technically. But if ya got no soul in your fingers, you ain't playin!

I’ll tell ya someone whose guitar playing was under-rated IMO, and that’s Merle Haggard. I guess because his voice was so good, and his songwriting abilities were so strong his guitar playing skills didn’t get much mention…but he sure could play some tasty licks.
