Right handed but due to elbow injury forced to learn to cast and flip left handed. Now it is a natural to me as casting right handed.
Got right elbow fixed a few years ago now need to get the left one fixed. So back to casting right handed about 50% of the time. But always flip left handed.

I always reel with my right hand and have never felt the need to change because it doesn’t solve what I think is the bigger problem. IMO, it is more important to be able to cast and pitch from both sides. Depending on boat direction, you are always going to have casting angles that are easier to hit from one side or the other. It took a couple of weeks of daily practice to match both my casting and pitching accuracy. Using both sides means I can always cast over the trolling motor when I need a low presentation/skip and I can easily adjust if I’m sharing the front deck.

Most of the people I know, including me, cast and flip with their right hand then switch to their left hand to reel with their right. Wouldn't it would really make more sense to cast with your right hand and reel with your left? I know it is second nature to most of us to do it this way, but does it really make sense? Random Monday thoughts... It makes more sense to do what comes natural to you and cast with right, switch and reel with right comes natural to most. Just like you noticed.

For those of you who cast right and reel left, do you reel and set the hook with the rod handle and reel in the same position as when you make the cast or pitch? I don't. I palm the reel. How would I get from casting with my index finger on the trigger to palming the reel without using my other hand?

I cast with my right and reel with my right....but my rod is virtually already in my left hand before the bait lands.....I case a spinning rig with my right hand and reel with my left, so it is not a dexterity issue....my son is left handed but mostly ambi-dexterous and he casts left handed and reels right handed for both.

I was born left handed and made to be right handed so I guess I'm ambidextrous. I just started using a bait caster and I'm comfortable casting and setting the hook with my left hand. It just feels right.

In a fraction of a second, you pin the butt of your rod to your ribs with your bicep and use whatever grip you fancy. You must have really big biceps for this technique so it was just a natural progression for me.

You are correct, but it is a little strange that most of us who switch a baitcaster from right to left after casting will leave a spinning rig in our right hand and reel with our left.
