Scag, 6 years old, We mow 6 acres...no problems at all!
Trust your own instinct. Your mistakes might as well be your own, instead of someone elses.

There’s a reason Scag is more often than not what you see on serious landscape company’s trailers…..

Oh, I own 2 Hustlers now, one (48") with 900 hours that is 11 years old and one commercial (54") that is 7 years old and has 500 hours on it. The older one has had no mechanical issues the 54" has had to have new bearings on the blade spindles (one went bad but replaced all 3). They were $13 each and it was a 2 hour job.
Happy with their product.

I bought a new Hustler FastTrak 54 last year and IMO it's a pure animal. I have the same mower. I bought it in 2018. The only thing I do not like about it is the way that the grass collects under the deck. I had a Dixon ram 44 for 12 years before the Hustler and it never had issues with grass collecting under the deck. I clean out my Hustler at least 3 times a year and it is caked under there. It`s not from cutting wet grass either.

I have lower tier John Deere with stamped deck. I bought for low 2s brand new from Home Depot. Our lawn is a hair under 1acre but lots of trees/flower beds to navigate. Works great but I pay for service now. A buddy of mine has a nice Toro with the suspended seat. Its real nice.

Budgetary issues were up front when I shopped last year.
1.) You can't get ANY kind of riding mower for less than less than about $1,00 to $2,000.
2.) There seems to be a break point at about $4,000, then it jumps to $10,000 and up.
I settled for the $4,000 Toro Timecutter with the "MYRide" seat system. I think it's 54" wide, which is fine for me and the trees I cut around. Gives a Very Nice cut, and the ride is incredible. I have only used it for 1 year, and I mow about 1.5 Ac.
Bought it On-Line direct from Toro. I have been very pleased so far.
I'm glad there are wine drinkers in this world ..... it saves more beer for the rest of us. Hopper

I have an Ariens Ikon 42 that's been trouble free for nearly 5 years. Had a little over two acres until my mother in law sold her place, now down to about 3/4 acre. Lots of tight places is the reason I went with the 42" deck rather than the 54".
