Idk about the SAL program, but I do know 100% of that fish's offspring will now go back to the lake because she was caught and released with little stress. SAL can't guarantee 100% stocking rate from that fish, but releasing her back into her environment can. And what percentage of those offspring get eaten on the bed? How many survive to adulthood vs the larger fingerlings released by Athens? (I don't know the answer here, but I suspect the latter is much larger). The program has been around for a long time , multiple Ivie fish have been donated..........exactly how much more DNA and "science" does TPW actually need. (from Ivie or Fork) read the question slow if it helps

So what’s the percentage of hatchery produced sharelunkers to natural produced? I’m going to guess 98% are naturally produced.

(from Ivie or Fork) read the question slow if it helps They acquire new genetics every year to reduce risk. If they used the same genetics year after year and there was some negative unknown trait in those genetics, all your eggs would be in one bad basket (pun intended). I think they have 20 some tanks they can spawn fish in. Once those tanks are full they are at max capacity and I suspect they will start to turn fish down. And to be clear, I fully support an angler with whichever choice they make. I do believe the ShareLunker program is a great benefit to our state and it's big bass fishery though.

sorry sinkey, ok I will amend my question .....How much do they need in a given year ? I suspect they have a plethora of Ivie DNA available for the last 12 months

I actually gained a lot more respect for JonB after watching this. Not many people would’ve released that fish. Really showed he cares more about the lake/resource than himself.
Congrats to him! x2 x3

Pretty much ALL fish produced at Athens and Jasper and San Marcos are decedents of SL fish. And in the very near future 100% will be if not already..
You can argue about a lot of things, but one thing for sure is that a SL produced fish is the exact same thing as a Florida bass..
It is not a new species..

Good for him! They obviously take the sport seriously, invest time to learn their electronics and equipment, and put time on the water. Good for him.

It is not a new species.. You are a human. Shaq is a human. You are not the same. His 16 year old son was 6 foot 9 inches at the age of 16. That's not a coincidence. Genetics + forage + ideal growing temperature = big bass. The easiest of these to control is genetics.
