It’s fun to test out the limits of your vehicle in 2x. You would be amazed how well a good 2x will go with good rear treads, a light load, and an experience driver. Try to get it into a spot where it won’t move forward or in reverse. Then, switch to 4x4. If you’re still stuck, you now know better than to have driven into that muck to begin with.

I had a Toyota 4x4 back in the early nineties, rarely locked the hubs but did a few times. Have a Xterra in the driveway now but I’ve never used the 4 wheel function, mostly cause I never drive it

Daily at work, but it’s in a G ride. Occasionally in my POV, hunting or launching offroad.

I use mine for dusting off chevys, fords, and Rams. Without it, I just melts the back tires. In 4x4, it’s a little wheel spin, then catapult. Other uses are in pulling the boat in the rain and wanting to pass other cars. It keeps the traction control from coming on every time I hammer the gas.
I’ve use 4Lo once…just seeing what it was like to hammer 500hp in low on dry concrete. I though I was gonna break something. Top speed in 6th was 40 or so.

Use mine frequently . 98 Toy Tacoma. Bought it when I lived in Maine. I have a 2WD GMC too but don't take it into compromising positions.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I probably use mine a dozen times per year or so. Dirt ramps, launch off the bank a time or two. When the yard is wet, Ill use it so as not to cut ruts. Never really have needed the 4Lo, don't go in the mud, it was a real asset this past February with the snow and ice.

I have never owned a vehicle that didn't have it. I certainly use it enough to justify having it, also in this instance an ounce of prevention is worth far more than a pound of cure.

I suspect its used more than needed in a lot of cases. Got to justify the extra cost.

Used it during the great freeze out in Texas this past year. First time in 4 years I actually used it. I like it. It makes the front end feel more solid.

I use mine quite a bit. It's great to have in when driving in the logging, skidder roads in the hills. Wet steep launches,or our gravel steep launches. Obviously snow season too. I've helped many a 2wd rigs at launches get out.

use mine off and on, winch gets used more than the 4x4 though. have had nothing but 4x4 pickups since 1977, first was a 54 ford sitting on a 56 dodge military ambulance frame/axles with 428 cobra jet/C6 auto. it wasn't fast but it would climb a tree if you wanted to, single speed transfer case was super low geared.

Maybe 5-10 times a year.
Love the way they look though and I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
Every truck I’ve owned except 1 has been 4wd and it will stay that way as long as I’m driving.

I use it on boat ramps, I believe using it helps keeping it in working order
