As a kid who lived at a gas plant outside Agua Dulce in the late 60's, some of my favorites were boiled okra and various organ meats. For dove, we had them stewed, little bones and ribcages sucked clean of meat lol. I remember the smell of burnt feathers over the stove when dad would finish them off for the pot.

Ranch Style Beans on white bread...had to eat a lot of bean sandwiches in my teen years.

I did that once when I was about 14 and took it to my Granny for her dinner (she lived up the street and we fed her every night)....I found out at her funeral (six years later) that she HATED that particular meal. Apparently, she thought it was the nastiest meal she'd ever had...and she grew up in the Depression.

Dozen tortillas and some black beans.

Back in the day/early 90s brisket was 89 cents per pound and you could get ten pounds of potatoes for $3
You could eat quite well for cheap at those prices.

No shizzle, we tried it a few months ago after many years not eating it, I was disappointed honestly

Now we know who is doing good. Lots of folks consider ground meat a poor mans meal, I disagree as that there is living high.

I've been poor but I'd still eat better than that.
