Tons of offerings. Colt makes a great AR. I'd stay away from the A2 front sight though. My last 3 were built from Aero uppers and an Aero receiver. Aero Precision I'm not a fan of polymer uppers, especially on your 1st AR. YMMV. Know your receivers

For a less expensive but still good offering check out Palmetto State Armory. You can put together a cosmetically blemished AR for under $600 and probably never even notice the cosmetic issue. PSA

There's a million ways to go with your AR. Have fun and welcome to the World of Barbie for gun enthusiasts.

Not to derail the OP, but anybody have a recommendation for a good machine shop for barrel threading? Preferably in Plano area if possible.

Thank you

Sawhorse, that guy is wrong. AR stands for Assault Rifle. Stay away from them, those guns will kill all of your loved ones.

Now that mine is built and Cerakoted like I want, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Okay, so bear with me for this newbie question

What exactly would you want to change on the rifle and why? The way I look at it from a newbie standpoint, whether you buy one built or build it yourself, you get the same end result.. a rifle that shoots. For example say I got an M&P. I don’t see why I would want to change anything on it for parts that do the exact same thing.

I 100% understand adding nice sights on it. But as far the basic functionality of the rifle, I haven’t figured out why one would want to change anything

Educate me. Again, this is from someone that doesn’t know [censored] about AR’s. I haven’t understood why people change out parts yet for the same end result of a stock rifle

If I went the DIY route, are the good YouTube videos on how to assemble it?

And by the way to answer some questions.. I’ll be getting one to have fun at the range with and on VERY RARE occasion use it to hunt pigs/deer. I’m a waterfowl hunter primarily

In the end, I wanted a "Tacti-cool" PewPew, like you, to go to the range and have some fun and the occasional varmint hunt. Right now, I have no need for the super duty/expensive bolts and springs and adjustable gas tubes and, and, and, and... Well at least not yet.
Yes, you could spend WAWI money on what ever you want, but I'm going to wear out some of the original stuff first. I did NOT like the ugly plastic handguard on there, and the Geissele handguard I fell in love with. Also got the M-LOK angled grip, because it just makes a better feel and a natural grip on the front end. The trigger worked, but ended up replacing that with something much nicer and breaks/operates much cleaner. Would have to agree up above, spoil yourself on the trigger! As for the Cerakote job, I have some obsession with the burnt bronze color. It's not for everybody, but I love it. But as far as the internals go, it's pretty much stock, for now. I put a Bi-Pod on it for range shooting and hated it, much rather use the bags or blocks. My biggest problem with building all of this was the getting the foregrip changed out. That's what's cool about the AR platform is it's Lego's for big boys.

Hop is the one who gave me some REAL good info back in the day, that got me into it. Boy Howdy, did THAT take me down the rabbit hole!

This is what it looked like before I sold it to Bob at the gun show. Man that van of his was loaded down.

I have them both, they are both good rifles and never had an issue with them.

Also look at Palmetto State Armory.
