CutThroat--Snap On repairs them on the truck while you wait. I've had a few of them repaired. You mean I'm stuck with this ugly thing? I guess I can't complain since I didn't pay for it in the first place. As long as it still works. At one time I had a whole wrench set that was painted red. I bought them used cheap. I don't know that ever happened to them.

Thanks everybody for the input. I finally got a hold of someone at Sears and all I need to do is give them my broken ratchets and they will replace each with no problems!

Wow i'm amazed! I got sort of bored so I thought Id look at the guts of one of my ratchets. To my amazement there was hardly anything to it. Just a couple gear parts. Makes ya wonder how can they charge so much for so little!

Yes, Sears still has a "you break / they replace" policy. You only have to bring in the broken part. They were very friendly to me when I got a tool replaced a few months ago. Sears in Lewisville, BTW.

CRAFTSMAN IS CHEAP JUNK. IF YOU HAVE TO REPLACE IT THEN IT'S NOT A GOOD TOOL. CRAFTSMAN IS CHEAP JUNK. SNAP-ON IS THE ONLY TOOL FOR ANYONE WHO CARES ABOUT THERE TOOLS.

I agree Snap-on is better brand of tools. But Craftsman gets the job done JUST FINE. I might have to replace a few Craftsman tools every once in an awhile. But I be damned if Im going to be one of those fools who pays $200 for a Snap-on ratchet or $300 for a set of Snap-on screwdrivers. Ive been told many of time from co-workers who have $3,000 Snap-on toolboxes full of thousand of dollars of Snap-on tools; they wished they went my way of tools (Craftsman.) instead of being indebt for years over their Snap-on tools. In over 10 years of me being in the automotive business. Ive seen just as many or more Snap-on tools being replaced than Craftsman hand tools.

nitrobasscat- Oh by the way. By your comment: if you have to return a tool, then its not a good tool makes me think, you never worked with tools. Because if you did you would know that any brand of tools you use you will sometime/someday will break and have to return one. So I guess that makes Snap-on cheap junk tools right with Craftsman. Right?

As an auto tech I deal with & own many brands. I've broke them all. My ability to break a tool does not discriminate against any brand. While I'm not a fan of Craftsman sockets-I prefer Snap On- my favorite retchets are Craftsman. Also thir pro series of wrenches are nice.

I've had Snapon, Cornwell, Matco, Mac & Williams, they all were good enough to get the job done! There is a huge difference in Snapon & Craftsman tools, but for the average guy that just needs his tools around the house, Snapon is over priced, but for commercial use, then yes, go with the Snapons or cornwell or Matco tools! I have a set of combination wrenches from Tractor Supply that feel as good in my hand as any I've ever used! As far as the specialty tools, I like Snapon the best! I'm still needing to buy a set of tools if anyone has some for sale, I need a rollaway box full of tools, brand name is not too critical. Will have cash in about a week to buy some. Also need a good set of Victor cutting oxy/acetylene gauges, torch & hose!
Keep your powder dry & don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!!

Even for commercial use I think Snap-on is way, way, way over priced. Ive been using Craftsman tools for over 10 years Professional and personally and really never had a big problem. I agree Snap-on tools are great but I think a lot is about name hype and thats why they are over priced. Think about it, should an empty roll around tool chest cost more or the same as a good used truck? I also had some comb wrenches from tractor supply that felt good.

I have a Matco ratchet that started slipping. They took it and replaced the gears once. Thats been several years ago. Then about 2 weeks ago it started slipping again. I just happened to be at the shop when they showed up and they replaced the entire ratchet. I have never had a Craftsman tool break. I dont have as many as I do of Snap-on. But I have had S-O's break. Its amazing what a name is worth. Just look at everything you buy. Not just tools. Look at your fishing gear. Take 2 rods or reels or lures and compare them. They could be identical except for the name slapped on them. Sorry for getting a little off topic.

Well, I'm fortunate.
I've got a Sears about three blocks from the shop. I buy most of my ratchets from there. In 5 years, I've replaced about that many. But, I've tools from all the other name brand trucks fail at some point in time. They all do a good job warranting them.
What makes the difference in the tool trucks, you can finance them with the truck and keep your weekly cost down.
I personally do not buy much off a truck since I have distributors that give me good wholesae discounts on most tools.
But like anything else, shop around. Matco may have a set of tools that Cornwell doesn't. Cornwell may have a sale going that Snap On doesn't.
All in all, they are all good tools.
Average person, Craftsman are just fine. I'm ok with em, since Sears is only 3 minutes away and I don't have to wait a week for the truck to show back up.
