I have learned to pick out the smaller breasts. The big ones can be tough. I don't eat dark meat so I don't know if the same applies to legs.

Our Boy Scout Troop has an annual BBQ and we sell chicken plates.

Each year our coordinator orders a certain number of chicken halves and tells them how much we want them to weigh.

We normally get 2.5-3 pounds halves (IIRC) and one year someone made a mistake and ordered 4-4.5 pound halves! OMG

They were huge and would not fit in the clamshell containers we use! sarcastic

Dark meats the best part of a yard bird because it’s the juiciest. When I smoke chicken it’s mostly thighs with wings sprinkled in. Of course if I do have a whole chicken I’ll smoke the breast. By the way that’s the only breast to smoke. Those bone removed breast dry up way to fast. The bones hold in flavor in a little juice.

Oh by the way Robert those look stupendously awesome!!

Same here but I do like the thighs also. HEB carries a Central Market air chilled chicken and after trying it that is all I buy now. I little more $ but well worth it IMO because of the taste and it is never tough. The pieces don't look like turkey sized breasts.

My daughter likes dark meat. Now that she is married and out of house the dogs get a treat if I do a beer can chicken.
