Last week we showed you record largemouth bass growth. Last week, Region IV Fisheries staff sampled an even larger bass at Ocmulgee PFA. This giant bass was 24.09 inches long, had a 22 inch girth and weighed 13lbs even.
Even crazier is when biologists looked up the pit tag on the fish, it was only a 4-year old fish. The fish was born in March 2016 at Richmond Hill Hatchery and stocked in the lake in March 2017 as a 3/4 lb and 11 inch, 1-year old bass. This fish was recaptured last year in the spring as a 3-year old fish that weighed 7.82lbs and now today as a 13 pounder!
The take home? This bass has grown 5lbs in the last year with an average growth of 3.25lbs per year. All bass at Ocmulgee PFA are catch and release only. So this bigun is back in the water waiting for anglers. #Go Fish Georgia!

If you dig into the world record story, you will find that many of the fishing historians doubt the record due to many inconsistencies in Perry’s story.






Do you actually know what the Japanese caught bass caught weighed? Well let me help you, it weight 22lb 5oz. An ounce bigger than the claimed 22lb 4oz that Perry is recorded to have caught. But for whatever reason, a record has to be beaten by 2oz’s to be a record....

Sorry to get everybody fired up. The intent of the post was the remarkable growth rate of this particular bass and the future potential.

I’m not fired up if it sounds that way. Hopefully they have some kind of freak bass and they really can break the record. Too many loopholes in Perry’s record.

At that growth rate it seems it could be possible. A lot of people didnt think the bass at camelot bell grew as fast as Mike said but I think this shows it's more than possible.

Snagged or not, the 25lber in california will be hard to top...

That's right... I think people forget that there was a certified 25 lb bass caught in California.

Unfortunately or fortunately the angler was very honest and admitted he was bed fishing for the fish and had accidentally snagged it.

Good thing old Mike Long didn't find that fish on her bed. He was the master snagger. Had his own custom treble hook and all.

Agreed and that fish should be listed as the World Record in my opinion.
