Not sure what their orientation is but I saw these out of the corner of my eye yesterday along a city street. All the other iris next store neighbor and around the neighborhood are still dormant. I know we have had a mild winter but this seems wrong for January. Right out in the open along the street and several areas around this business, not protected from the cold. My bluebonnets germinate in the fall. I have to wait until early June to mow them. The city made a neighbor put a border around hers. So far they have not bothered me.
