Sadly, the latest Texas lake to be sprayed for hydrilla is Hubbard Creek out west at Breckenridge. Tragic.
FishAmericaNow (FAN), the TP&WD and HS fishing clubs work together, creating Fishing FANClubs to teach younger kids how to fish. Kids need to fish. www.FishAmericaNow.org

Anyone looking at the health hazards of adding herbicides to water supplies?

I keep hearing that lakes are here for water supply, not for fishing. I've lived in Texas my whole life and as far as I can recall the water has always come out of the faucet when we turned it on, even when there was hydrilla all over the place. Rayburn, Toledo Bend, Nacogdoches, Pines, Lone Star, Fork, Houston County, Athens, Martin Creek, Jacksonville, Pinkston, Timpson, Cedar Creek, Palestine, Tyler...apparently grass didn't clog things up as much back then.

No doubt "fishing" is not at the top of the priority list except for fishermen and those whose lively hood depend on fishermen. IMO -- hydrilla has little to no affect on the (water supply) if anything it makes for cleaner water.. There NOT killing the hydrilla because of it hurting the (water supply) there killing it because of the lakefront property owners and the recreational boaters.

We heard that they were going to spray the Fort Worth Cut and around ramps and dock owners were on their own. This is from locals that fish the lake a bunch

Where is Erin Brockovich? We saw a helicopter with what looked like spray apparatus on it over the summer. Aerosolized, the lungs quickly absorb it. Ridiculous that they can get away with any of this. Add to the rumor that a contractor miscalculated the application and it was 10x recommendations.
Maybe we should start a class action. I have fish in my freezer predating spraying. We could get a baseline and go from there.

They been doing it on Rayburn for 20+ years. Fishing is great and hydrilla is as good as it's been in a decade. Of course many of these areas are void of vegetation to start with except for the salvinia. Rayburn may not be the best example as it seems to only infest the upper reaches of the lake.[/quote]
What do you think is the big difference in Rayburn? There always seems to be hydrilla there. I always thought it was because of the fluctuation of the water level, it always felt there was a big drawn down ever 5-6 years ago that would kill the shallower hydrilla but the deeper stuff would survive. The draw down would also allow for new growth in the shallower areas.
