My opinion is most ammo is being made over seas and the Covid pandemic has caused other countries to hoard also We lost all our foundries back under Obama and we have struggled ever since to get ammo and supplies from other countries Who do you think really cares for Americans any more
We need to bring our companies back here but especially the companies that build our ammo. We wonโt be able to defend ourselves if we are attacked from over seas since they supply our ammo needs American ammo companiesI think you're right about the foundries. It's maybe a raw material issue.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

So much krap in this. His explanation is krazy and unrealistic.
I can see demand for the self defense pistol rounds, .223/5.56x45 being over the top and maybe even .308 / 7.62x51.
But, I can promise there is not a huge increase in 7mm Rem Mag or the 30.06 he spoke of and there is none on the shelves ...NONE ! Hasn't been either for months. Why no hunting rounds?
I have worked for a firearms and ammunition retailer for about 8 years. We have always kept a very wide variety of calibers, including weird and uncommon ones in multiple grain/bullet options, in stock in our store and warehouse. We have seen it before. Anytime a panic starts, the first rounds to go, as you say, are AR-calibers and semi-auto pistol calibers. Once those are gone, people tend to start panic buying ammunition for the other guns they have. You know, "just in case". Since this panic wasn't specifically caused by legislation targeting certain categories of weaponry (which normally contains the panic to that specific category) and has gone on so long, the supplies of nearly every caliber have been depleted. Plus, when the majority of the new shooters walk into our store now, they are looking to just purchase any gun we have ammo for, so we tend to sell quite a bit more .30-30's and .257 Roberts than we normally would, causing demand for those calibers to go up even more... We receive ammo shipment daily, and a lot of them include 9mm, 5.56, and other hard-to-get calibers. We just allowed backorders on a lot of them for a period of time, so those orders are getting filled first before we can put any out on the shelves. The situation sucks all the way around, for everyone involved, but I do not believe manufacturers are intentionally stifling supply to civilians for some dark and mysterious reason. There are a lot of factors that play into this that a lot of people aren't aware of because they've never affected them before.

Only .410 I found at WM were #6 shot. Not exactly a defensive round!

I guess a lot of you know why Lumber costs so much now....and why lumber yards are low on inventory. Basically its the same reason there is no ammo to buy and if you find any...the price gougers are in full force.

The CEO should have mentioned how long it takes to build new tooling . He said it's been difficult in getting employee's and training them . In my business , tooling and fab equipment can take 30-40 weeks to get delivery to increase production lines --- and some of the equipment is 10's of millions of dollars . Infact , the glass lenses made for semiconductor tooling ---used immersion lithography -- take 3 - 4 years to build --- to make a perfect one ( goes into a $40 million tool ) Considering the massive consumer liability in making ammo ---- I am sure he has to have 100% control of new employee's and equipment to ramp additional production .

It doesn't matter what you tell people, companies are always out to screw people and the bad people are making money hand over fist. This is the view people will always take.
Look at the folks who think you can just open a production line overnight to meet demand. Big order, build a factory it's easy, the equipment and raw material is on Aisle 9 at Walmart. Trained people are easy to find, easy to train and will produce a quality part the first day on the job you don't even need those QC people. Everyone is an internet CEO and knows best how to run the business.

why the shortage of shotgun shells?.....you can't find dove hunting/upland game loads.... I didn't pay attention to what shot but bass pro in garland was loaded up with shotty shells. maybe call and ask for gun dept. see if they will ship from store? This is true, I was there this afternoon. They had 2 3/4, 3" and 3 1/2" shells in 12 and 20 guage, #7, #9, BB and #4 shot. That was the only ammunition that I could see in the store. People buzzing around like vultures ready to pounce down on any shelf stock. Here is a link to some ammo and other cool stuff: https://ustacticalsupply.com/ammunition.aspx

I am not worried. As my retired Ranger buddy says" Just take the weapons and ammo off of the neighborhood survivalists/rambo's that are dead after the real operators roll thru the 'hood". Harsh but a hard grain of truth.
