I have used Dave Goodsen at Shut Up and Fish for many years. Had him install graphs on 3 boats, and he has always explained all functions to me in depth. Although I can be dense on tech stuff. Had an issue with my front graph that no one could seem to figure out at the dealer. Took it to him and in 5 seconds he told me the transducer was not the correct one for my trolling motor. I had read all kinds of suggestions, called Humminbird, took it to the dealer, no help at all! He ordered the correct one, installed it, and it was perfect. I am not saying others experiences aren't valid, but my experiences have been nothing but positive. I recommend Shut Up and Fish absolutely!!

My interaction was very different. I explained the problem, he asked if I called Humminbird. I said I had and he said, "Well, I'm not going to tell you anything different than them". That was it. Like I said, not helpful and everyone has a bad day. Maybe that was his day, but I am not not used to that kind of reaction in the service industry.
That said, the All Star guy came out, looked at it, tried a few things and actually repaired it. He was extremely friendly and he wanted to earn my business. He did.

My interaction was indirect, but equally disappointing for the premium rate specialty service industry. I fixed what he physically installed but couldn't make work properly in multiple attempts, either out of not caring, or lack of fundamental knowledge. I don't know which it was. What I saw was a reassurance that doing my own is the wiser choice as I'd have to question why I'd pay for a failed install.

Shut Up and Fish are great if you like someone that is not worried about being friendly or helpful. Sure, he'll install whatever you need, but don't ask him to explain something. Well. Just “shut up and fish”! The name kinda says it all. I don’t know the guy, but I have friends that bought from him. They seem ok with him.

Well I hate to give bad reviews but it is what it is. I met David years ago when he was just starting out and working from his house. I bought a graph from him, but I installed it. It was a good price and I was very happy. Last year bought a new to me boat and wanted to install an extra HDS12 at the console and a few more items. After having read so many glowing reviews and remembering a good experience with him on my first purchase years ago, I decided the drive from Austin to Lewisville was worth it. I purchased a 4 bank charger, mounting bracket, a point one puck, and asked him to install those items, which he did along with a used HDS12 I had purchased. But he was grumpy from the git go. He couldn't get the back panel off to properly run the wiring from the new charger so he just ran them in front of the panel, which I said no big deal. The two issues were: 1) he couldn't get my HDS12 to read the transducer, 2) now since he wired in the new charger my batteries run down which did not happen before the new install. I called and scheduled an appointment to get the two issues fixed, which meant another trip from Austin. Still couldn't get either issue resolved. His response to the graph was, "it either needs the new updates or your ethernet ports/cables are bad on the unit". Call Lowrance. Long story short, I paid a guy here in Austin to fix it and he resolved them with neither a unit update or a new ethernet port or cable. Bad connections and poor workmanship.

Well I hate to give bad reviews but it is what it is. Seems like you might, since you’re volunteering complaints in a thread asking for install advice. Sounds like something went wrong on yours, and the other 100,000 people that have used him, including me, are quite satisfied.

Well, I can give a real time update/review of Shutupandfish this afternoon. Just dropped my boat off this morning to have a HDS unit installed on dash. Replacing existing unit and will have to get a little work done on the faceplate to fit the new unit. David was quick to get it in and fair on price. I'll report back on the quality of the work but so far everything has been very good. I'm a relative newbie with the electronics so I am hopeful he can walk me through a few of the basics.

I called "shut up" last Fri. for $10,000 worth of Electronics and trolling motor. David was pissed off, and irritated. I was open for advice and observations. One word answers, if I ask a question. Very unusual treatment from someone in sales. Told me how busy he was. I told him I would call back at a better time. Called back Mon. same attitude. He told me he was working on a boat... "what do you need"? I am driving to Texarkana for my new equipment. Jones Trolling Motor and Electronics. Nicest, friendly people you can imagine.

My only “Shut Up And Fish” experience: my sons purchased an Ultrex from him for a retirement present for me(32 years in the fire service). It didn’t have the MEGA transducer. They didn’t know that mattered to me. Brand new, still in the box with a receipt in hand. I was told by David “NO RETURNS”! Not even if I pay the difference and a restocking fee or something? “NO”! Then I asked him about purchase and mounting a new Hummingbird graph on console. I wanted a new Helix 10. He would do it but refused to connect(or add if necessary) to an in hull 2D transducer so I could read depth...while on plane. “You have no need to look at anything except GPS when running”. I have an thru-hull transducer now for sonar when running and I want to stay with this. Often I run in areas that don’t even have mapping and I want to be able to read things when under way. The operative words were: “I WANT”. Didn’t matter to him what the customer “WANTED”. Needless to say I have an Ultrex that does not(can not) meet all my expectations and didnt waste any more time with him. Glad so many have good experiences with him but that was mine. I apologize if this is seems offensive to post your real life accurate experiences on a FORUM but I’m going to hazard to guess the OP wants ALL the information to assist him with his decision.

Benefit of the doubt. I thought just what you thought. "I got screwed but EVERYBODY else had great service". Evidently not. If ya screw enough people word will get around. I guess people are starting to speak up. Boat lives matter.

Update to my post yesterday-all good at ShutUp. Took my boat in on short notice (which is awesome because I have a tournament in two weeks) and had it back in my garage before the end of the afternoon. Easy in, easy out if you're in the general 121 area. Granted it wasn't a huge project but looks like everything was done very well. Took my new unit through a quick walk-thru while I was in the shop and everything is in excellent working shape. (true test will be once I get it on the water for the first time) David was as nice as could be expected. I'll definitely go back to ShutUpandFish for any future electronics work.
Now that said, it's been a long time and way before I even knew about ShutUpandFish, but in the past, Southwest Parts and Allstar (in Lewisville) have also done very good work for me on trolling motor repair. (not electronics)
