Wow, Ms K brought out the usual crazies. I was dirt poor for a good part of my life. Any benefit, government or otherwise, would have been most welcome. It baffles me that so many commenters are so callous--without offering any alternate solutions.
I recently learned about the "Bunker". I have been curious about it and thought I might like to participate some day. Now, I think not--I suspect its purpose might be to keep toxic discussion contained rather than allowing free wheeling and productive political discourse to flourish. Yep. This is pretty mild compared to the dumpster fire known as the bunker. Unfortunately I'm not surprised.

Man I hate means testing. People who bear the most cost should not be excluded from the benefit. I tried to explain free school lunches to my kindergartener and even he didn't understand why only some kids got them and they were pretty good and he has to eat some crummy sandwich that I made him.
I'll get the $1200 check and $500 child credits, but it's not fair to those who don't, because they're paying more taxes than anyone. Yeah that sucks, but the belief is the majority of lower income people will spend it quickly and save none. [censored]. You shouldn't pay the most and get nothing while people who pay nothing get the most. If they're gonna literally give away free money, they should give it to everyone. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FREE MONEY. This is OUR money they are so graciously giving back to US.

Can someone...anyone...please show me where it says that life is fair and you have the right to be comfortable every single day of your life until you die??
No one can prevent 100% of bad things from happening to you. No elected leader, pastor, preacher, spouse, employer, no one. The best thing that you can do is prepare yourself to the best of your ability. Educate yourself so you can provide for yourself, have a marketable skill, and not have to rely on anyone. Save for a rainy day. Live below your means. These are not new concepts. But even then, bad things happen to good people. Some folks get a [censored] roll of the dice. That's life.
The best way I can describe it is baby bunnies...they are the cutest, fluffiest, most harmless critters that exist. Never harming a fly. They're the picture of peace and goodness, doing nothing but hiding out and eating grass. And their sole purpose on this earth is die a horrible, painful death as food for pretty much everything with big teeth. A VERY tiny percentage of baby bunnies get to go on to make more bunnies. THAT is life. So if you are anything other than food for a coyote, you should be pretty dang happy about it and appreciate every single moment you get to be comfortable, while expecting that the nature of life is kick you arse most of the time.
Oh yeah, and stop expecting those who make better choices than you to pick up your slack.

I've never understood the "you can't raise a family on minimum wage" argument.
Minimum wage was never intended and shouldn't be something that you raise a family on. It's unskilled labor/work for kids and people just starting out. If you are a kid and/or are just starting out, DON'T BREED. If you have 5-10 years of experience in any industry, you shouldn't be making minimum wage and if you are then you need to look inside and not to the government to save you. Of course, there are extraneous circumstances, but on the whole I this is a total BS "argument". Look at the poverty numbers in the U.S.. They are growing. Illegal immigrants and poor folk have nothing to occupy their time. So what to do they do. They BREED. Breeding is an animal instinct and everyone knows how to do it. Plus they can't afford prevention.

Oh yeah, and stop expecting those who make better choices than you to pick up your slack. I'm with ya. I think if people honestly look at their selves if they're in a bad spot, they'll realize that they own the position they're in, due to bad decisions. Not everyone fits this, as I know some folks who truly have been dealt a bad hand in life. It took me a while to really realize that, I was in a bad spot for a long long time, all due to my hardheadedness, and my choice to distance myself from God. The good thing is it's fixable.

A friend that had ranch along with his son between Brownwood and Brady told me one day that everybody loves quail. This was after sitting at a stand on his son's place and watching a bobcat waiting on either quail or turkeys to show up at the feeder.

The few years I got to hunt quail in King Country, I got to see it all. The most impressive act I saw was a hawk sitting on the power line, then swooping down and nailing a quail. 2-3 minutes later he was back on the line, then it wasn't long before he swooped back down for another. I understood why my late FIL would take an occasional shot at them when he saw them...
