We caught 13 fish all day. 3 sandbass, and 1 under 14" bass & 9 keeper Bass. We got lucky and hit the right ones in the head. Caught fish on everything we threw. Senko, suspending jerk bait, ol monster, jig, everything except crankin....(which was good for others). It was a really slow bite for us. No complaints here though, 2nd place for only the 3rd time on the lake.

I was down there the week of Champs with a Guide and I landed 6 fish in 3 days... It was horrible fishing trip but we had a great time being down there once off the water. The weather was completely different every day. Cold windy north winds, Sunshine windy south winds, Rainy light north winds....

This time of year the weather is a crapshoot in Texas. And it is certainly no different here on Falcon. Most of us have to schedule a date a good ways out and we have no idea what the weather, water temps, or winds may be. Sometimes we get lucky and all the stars align.. Sometimes not..

I have not seen a single pic of a big fish down here that is spawned out.

And I am still not hearing of any numbers of males starting to stack up in the shallows.

Water temps are still upper sixties today.. Something has to happen soon. And these fish will spawn before long.. Maybe deeper than usual due to the dropping water..

But it ain't happened yet!

I'll guess that those Falcon fish will be doing their thing sometime around February 9th, the next full moon.

Used to be 10-15 years ago you could fish Falcon all day and never see another boat, 30-35 lbs strings this time of year were no big deal. A shame to see what has happened to it.

Yeah, I bet this is the problem. rolleyes

I also remember fishing it 20 years ago, with zero boats in site and only 1 guy in our entire bass club caught a keeper fish in 2 days of fishing.

We're not talking about some lame a$$ bass club with what maybe 10-15 boats. We're talking about a high dollar bass tourney with almost 150 boats and they can't break 27 lbs in January. I can go beat 27 lbs on Fayette county right now.
Something is definetaly off.

I’m saying you can still go there and catch a five fish bag . But it’s not a lake you can go year around and catch big girls. Like falcon you can go there most any month and your next cast could be a DD .

My point was Amistad has a couple over 15 not that it’s a big fish factory.. however if you could take all the deep fish and move them to 30ft or less I think the story might change.. It’s a good lake as is Falcon. All lakes come and go. Amistad once produced 40-45lb limits. Falcon had 50s.. Fork has 37 of top 50 Bass in Texas, Okeechobee in Fl has too many DDs to count, Castaic in Ca has several high teens and some over 20lbs, and many others have DDs but at some point theyve all had bad years.. I have a repeat customer flying in from Ca in a few days to fish Amistad. We fished Falcon and Amistad on his last trip. He lives near Clear Lk and The Delta. Both of those are full of DDs. Its the need for a different scenery I guess.. cast n hope!

So you think tournaments 12 years ago were the demise of Falcon huh? Droughts have nothing to do with it...

There is nothing wrong with Falcon, low water happens. I am planning to go down there and catch a DD or two.

I have secret baits and techniques that will lure even the most cagey of lunkers!

I'll take that bet! $250 says you and I go down there and you fish tourney rules. Sack over 27 lbs and I'll pay the $250, gas for the day, dinner and a beer to celebrate. If you don't...it goes the other way. Let me know.

We have a smackdown! Pebbles vs. fivebites!!

27lbs is a lot of fish to catch this time of year in north Texas... good luck with that!

I think you would be surprised. I wish they had more winter tournaments on our north Texas lakes. I think you would see sacks much bigger than that on lakes like Ray Hubbard and Ray Roberts for example. Its very doable as long as the lakes are not flooded and muddy. Those big girls stack up in the winter. Falcon isnt anywhere close to what it used to be unfortunately and the results show that (big fish, big stringer, number of limits and what it took to get a check.) I used to go down there several times a year... I just cant justify a 9 hour one way drive until it improves.
