Did that for a little over a year with FFE and with KLLM when FFE sold out to them. Driving is great, the rules/hours hurt your wallet. Picking up a load and delivering can suck, because the office people and lumpers really could careless about YOU. Sitting in Grand Island, NE for 3 days, waiting for a JBS load will, in below freezing weather, suck the enthusiasm out of ya. So does waiting for a load in Cactus or Dumas, Tx. when it's 100 plus outside.

But, overall, it's tolerable. Good luck to ya, keep the dirty side down.

I did about 2 million miles U.S. and canada, you are at the mercy of your dispatcher and the loads available. remember that ANY ticket you might get in your personal vehicle also counts against your cdl, they don't care it is just a pickup truck.
hope you have some money socked away, you will most likely get the chit loads to start until you prove you can do on time delivery and even then you may or may not get the miles.
I stayed out about 10 1/2 months a yr. and did good with cfi (now conway/cfi), drove for them for about a million, my avg was about 85k a yr. since I stayed on the road.
you can make some good money but the toll it will take on you is a major deal, lost my prostate to cancer in 06 and dr. told me it was most likely due to sittin in the seat for 11+ hrs. a day. you won't get to do that with the new rules but just be aware that health can suffer due to lifestyle. I was off for about 4 months to recover.

it can be a great job if things work out (and I hope they do), like said, get out and walk the truck stop parking lot a few laps every chance. eat a lot of salads at the truck stop buffets, that is about all you can trust to not make you sick most times. most newer trucks have apus on them (aux power unit) that will let you use a hot plate, small reefer etc. learn to cook on the truck and you will be better off.

good luck and if I can help in any way shoot me a pm, trained drivers at 3 cos. (under the old rules tho) so I might be able to answer questions if ya have any.

oh, NEVER use the jake brake on snow/ice, you won't like the results.

drop 2 gears minimum on long downhill passes, you do not want to shift after you start the descent.

NEVER use a runout ramp unless you absolutely have to, the fine is horrendous and you will be fired on the spot.

used to be that petro and flying j had the best food, not sure now since both sold to t/a and pilot respectively.

last but not least, backing a 53' is nothing like your bass boat, the tandems have to be moved according to what state you are headed to or even goin thru, scales can tell just by looking. again the fine is not cheap.

I'd like to go on record as saying I question this plan. Best of luck however.
