My dad made the same career change at about the same age. He enjoys it. As CCTX says, the biggest challenge is figuring out how to eat healthy and exercise. 6 months of truck stop food and small town diners will have you on the verge of a grabber.

I am 56 and need a career change. I hate doing IT work.
I want to do something else.

IT work is completely thankless. You gotta have thick skin to be the guy that everybody loves to hate.

I'm the opposite. IT work has been my only job since I graduated college. At 62, I've got 3 1/2 more years until I take my last on call weekend.

Good luck! Can't imagine that kind of change. I'm sure it'll be great.

Just heard this morning about a guy I went to school with-
We weren’t close but he was a good guy-
Worked the same place for thirty five years(unusual these days for sure)
Just retired January 9th, heart attack killed him two days ago-
All that planning, doing things right, retire early and only get to enjoy a couple of weeks of retirement-

I thought of this post-
Good for you on the career change, I hope it’s what you want-
We never know-

What has happed to you does not define who you are-

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Made the same move at 52 myself. What I have found that works for me about eating healthy and exercise, 30 min of walking a day and Keto and go at lease 12 hours between meals, if you snack a lot you are spiking your insulin every-time you do which will make it hard to not gain weigh. I gained 65 lbs in two years Blood pressure was way up and my legs where losing circulation and becoming discolored after 9 months I'm back to my old weigh, legs are good and my Blood pressure is way down. Good luck and be safe out there. YMMV
