Your wife did the right thing. Its best to be safe with kids around. I like to think a Childs/persons safety is more important than some snake. Geez I havent seen so many snake lovers before! For all yall snake lovers who yell How cruel! Poor snake how dare you kill it! remember your on an message board where you go out on the water and jab a sharp metal object in the mouth of an fish then pull on it till it reaches your boat. Then you let it suffocate. Cut it up and eat it. You say poor snake I say poor fish!
By the way I LOVE fishing, Im just trying to make a point.
The way to a fishermans heart, is thru his fly!

I like your point. It does seem to look like their are a lot of snake lovers here. And its true what you said about fishing. To me it seems that a snake loving fisherman is some what hypocritical. My beliefe is still firm, the only good snake is a dead snake. Its just better to be safe than way sorry.

Pure Alabama Black Snake, and it ain't to bookoo.
Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.

That right there is what's known as your common everyday Waco dead flat snake. This particular snake is of very flat and dead origin it appears.

"To me it seems that a snake loving fisherman is some what hypocritical."
This statement confuses me. Perhaps that is why I refer to myself as an angler.
For the record, the snake in question was a normal brown snake. Completely harmless.
Also, a "diamond shaped head" does not tell us as much as you think. Many snakes whether *venomous* or not will have a "diamond shaped head".
Here in North Texas we have very few venomous snakes, learning what they look like is pretty easy.
Actually the statement above worse than confuses me, it almost makes me angry. Pure rubbish.

Thanks for the responses guys. I dont think my wife cares if its venomous or not. She doesnt doesnt like em. I cant say I blame her. She has to kill spiders for me. Is it just me or does it seem like a bumper crop of snakes this year? My wife passed a 4 footer on the road by our house last night and then this little one this morning. There also seems like alot of posts on the forum about them as well. I dont remember this many last year.

By the way I LOVE fishing, Im just trying to make a point. THAT WAS A LAME POINT, I PLAY CATCH AND RELEASE AND I DO NOT KILL BASS!!! but like i said there are only about 4 or 5 poisonous snake species in texas, all the rest are harmless, and many die each year because people do not take the time to educate themselves on which ones are dangerouse and which are not, and they are very easily identifiable

they dont usually grow longerthan a foot orso, and average size is about 6-8 in. roughly the size of a trick worm or a senko.

I use to work for a pest control company and we all ways had people yelling at us for using rat traps to kill rats. They said we should use a live trap and relocate them, I all ways asked them if I could bring them to their house, never had any takers...... I live out in the country and have lots of snakes around if one tries to make a home up buy the house I just pick it up and move it out in to the pasture. But if I am not home and my wife sees one, sorry, it usually has a very low chance of escaping.
Work hard, PLAY HARDER sleep when your dead.
